Who you are

  • Experience with applying concepts from different Agile approaches (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, XP)
  • Experience in empowering teams to become self-organizing and develop an agile mindset
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to adapt nimbly to a dynamic environment of shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Experience with technical tools such as Jira, Confluence, EazyBI, GSuite, Zoom, Slack
  • 3+ years of Scrum Master or Agile Coaching experience in a technical organization
  • Experience teaching Agile concepts to team members who are new to Agile or have misconceptions about Agile
  • Proven track record for promoting open and constructive communication
  • Creative and effective in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence people at various levels

What the job involves

  • As a scrum master with Toast you’ll have the opportunity to assess our engineer teams practices, teach healthy Agile habits and lead our teams to deliver maximum value for Toast
  • Be curious and help teams identify and implement the most valuable Agile practices, tailored to their needs. Provide the “right” amount of support with the goal of leading the teams to learn and maintain healthy Agile habits and become self-organizing
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure timely prioritization of the Product Backlog, Backlog Refinement, and that User Stories are written following best practices
  • Facilitate work management events such as sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and daily scrums
  • Capture and socialize metrics and team health data to improve forecasts and help the team maintain a sustainable pace
  • Help the team to size work, commit to it confidently, and maintain focus on the highest priority work
  • Identify and remove impediments to progress
  • Regularly review metrics, communicate progress to Stakeholders, anticipate bottlenecks, and provide escalation management

Having studied Computer Science at MIT, they worked at Endeca for 5 years. They moved from working as Product Manager to work full-time as President of Toast in 2013, having co-founded it the previous year.

They also studied Computer Science at MIT before working as an Engineer for Endeca for over 4 years. They worked at Oracle for 5 months prior to co-founding Toast in May 2012.
