  • Deep knowledge in Pricing and Packaging implementation with solutions that span across product, Quote-to-cash processes, finance, business systems, and customer support
  • Have experience in designing and implementing pricing plans that serves both self-serve and sales-led opportunities
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex monetization challenges
  • Demonstrated understanding of product management and financial concepts
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skill
  • Enterprise experience at scale, working with GTM
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across the organization are essential
  • Deep knowledge of product strategy, go-to-market strategy, and revenue analytics
  • A strong track record of both internal stakeholder influence and external partner management

What the job involves

  • As the Staff Product Management focusing on Monetization, you will help Docker maximize revenue and profits through strategic monetization initiatives
  • You will collaborate with other monetization PMs, and help define and drive the 2+ year monetization strategy, roadmap, and billing solution evolution.
  • You will lead a cross-functional team to build an open architecture and end-to-end billing solution that allows Docker to have successful pricing and packaging design, implementation, and operation across all product lines
  • You’ll derive the ideal pricing structure that is both highly intuitive and clearly showcases how we deliver exceptional value to our customers across our entire product suite
  • We are looking for a highly organized and driven individual with a passion for product monetization and a commitment to excellence and innovation
  • Lead a cross-functional pricing group to create the right architecture and solution, allowing Docker to successfully design, implement, and operate pricing and packaging plans across different product lines
  • Lead the effort to improve the buyer persona journey in self-serve and sales-led opportunities for different product lines
  • Identify opportunities and lead solution implementation to improve cross-selling and upselling of different products or product editions
  • Work with the Legal and Marketing team to update the current T&C to clarify our pricing plans and improve customer experience
  • Lead the effort to build consumption estimation tools for different products
  • Analyze data to track revenue performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to ensure the successful execution of monetization plans
  • Share pricing design and implementation guidelines and best practices with extended pricing teams
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and developments in the product monetization space
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management
  • Work closely with our sales, marketing, and product teams to drive revenue growth and improve customer retention/churn mitigation technique
  • 30 Days:
  • Onboard with the company, meet key team members, and understand the company culture
  • Gain a deep understanding of the current monetization strategies and product portfolio
  • Begin building relationships with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders
  • Start participating in the pricing group calls
  • Review the current assessments of buyer persona experience
  • 90 Days:
  • Officially lead the cross-functional pricing team to build the solution for consumption-based pricing
  • Develop and present a comprehensive plan to improve buyer persona experience
  • Develop plans to update T&C to improve overall pricing plan clarity
  • Establish regular reporting and communication channels with stakeholders
  • 1 Year:
  • Roll out the foundational architecture and solution for pricing and packaging implementation with joint effort from the cross-functional team
  • Lead the cross-functional team to successfully roll out consumption-based pricing for a few of the product lines
  • Improve the buyer persona experience across all products
  • Fully execute and optimize monetization strategies, achieving key performance targets
  • Report significant revenue growth and user engagement improvements

Our take

Docker supplies a hub and desktop solution to simplify the workflow of app development teams. Originally known for popularising the idea of containerising software, it saw itself outpaced by Kubernetes. However, the company has identified a problem with the growing complexity of containerisation, with some apps consisting of dozens or even hundreds of containers - which is what it now addresses.

Docker has had a difficult time in the recent past, with 2019 seeing it sell off its enterprise business, reduce its workforce by hundreds, and change its leadership team. As a well known brand and ecosystem for containerisation, however, it aims to lure developers back to its product as well as to take advantage of the growing global demand for app development.

Returning to focus on developers rather than large companies was certainly a gamble, but one that seems to have paid off. The company has returned to profitability and raised Series C funding in 2022, which is cited to fund hiring new talent, ramping up its business, and continuing to develop and refine its product.
