Company mission

To back those who find themselves on a different path, either by choice or by circumstance, helping the exceptions to the rules that others aren’t interested in serving.

Role

Who you are

  • An experienced product leader - you have at least 6 years of direct product management experience, with a track record of high impact. You have experience of coaching or managing product managers
  • In the detail - You are detail oriented and know all the KPIs in your current product like the back of your hand. You use that depth of knowledge to inform your strategy
  • Quantitatively minded - You have a natural talent for numbers. Models and spreadsheets excite you rather than scare you. You’re very comfortable working with SQL or BI tools like Looker, Tableau, etc.. You probably did a quantitative degree or have a background in data in some way
  • Customer obsessed - You are passionate about designing and building delightful user experiences that get the job done. You are experienced in identifying behavioural insights from qualitative research. You have the ability to balance business and customer needs
  • Outcome oriented - You ruthlessly prioritise against objectives, articulate the desired outcome and work collaboratively to create a path to achieve it
  • Entrepreneurial - You are self-motivated and proactive. You have a high tolerance for ambiguity, ability to perform under pressure to meet deadlines and willingness to take risks
  • A true collaborator - While we know you will have excellent ideas to put forward, we value a collaborative approach to reach our goals and as such you should be willing and driven to get your team's input, tailoring your communication to technical and / or non-technical audiences. You are an excellent written communicator

What the job involves

  • Reporting to the VP of Claims and your areas leader, you’ll build and execute on the Claims product strategy to improve performance in these areas, agree goals twice-yearly, and report regularly to Senior Leadership and the Claims Tribe on progress
  • You’ll act as the product manager for one of the two teams working in the space
  • You’ll oversee the other product team, line managing the Senior Product Manager working with that team - supporting them with strategy and goal setting - and ensuring we have a consistent approach to shared problems across the two teams
  • You’ll be a part of the tribe leadership group - helping the tribe meet its ambitious goals - and be a leader within the Product organisation, helping to ensure we deliver high quality product work across the business

Application process

  • Initial call with a Talent Acquisition Manager (45 mins)
  • An experience and behaviour interview where you will go into more detail about your recent work in more detail (1 hour)
  • A skill-based interview where you will be given a ‘product challenge’ in the interview and work with the interviewers to define a solution with Faris, our Director of Retention, and another Product Lead (2 hours)
  • A culture interview with a senior member of the team to check that your work style fits our processes and values (1 hour)
  • We’ll let you know if you’re invited to an interview or not. But, as a small team with a lot of applications to consider, we can’t give personal feedback on each application

Our take

For many ordinary people, insurance can be inaccessibly expensive. Marshmallow solves this problem by using data and technology to offer fairer coverage for car and van owners.

Car insurers generally quotes drivers according to population data, and many drivers are overcharged due to age and demographic. By leveraging data and proprietary technology, Marshmallow can offer more accurate and personalised quotes delivered in minutes, meaning lower fees for drivers. Naturally, this approach has proven popular, with Marshmallow garnering impressive reviews and accolades since it first launched.

The insurtech space is becoming increasingly competitive, and more and more tech companies are moving into the car insurance space, so the company is currently looking to expand into other insurance areas. Marshmallow’s unicorn status is a clear indicator of the company’s ongoing success and scalability, and will help to facilitate this diversification.

For now, the company is focused on helping those outside the norm, such as those who have uprooted their lives and moved to the UK. But in the future, it hopes to expand to any group of people who are unfairly marginalised and whose problems Marshmallow is uniquely positioned to solve.
