Our take

Noom is a digital health app that combines psychology, technology, and human coaching to help customers with their personal health and wellness goals through long-term behavioral change. While it started with weight management, it is working to expand its platform to help people with chronic and non-chronic conditions, such as stress and anxiety, hypertension, and diabetes.

Its customer base has been bolstered by a spiked interest in digital fitness in recent years. Its signature product, Noom Weight, is a diet alternative that competes with giants such as Weight Watchers as well as tech-enabled newer entrants that offer everything from meal deliveries to calorie-counting systems, many of which have also boomed.

Weight management is a $250 billion global business, but to Noom that's just a starter market. Where Noom's real potential lies, the company believes, is in becoming a 'habit-change' platform. The company's first feature beyond weight management, Noom Mood, launched in 2021 and aims to tackle stress and anxiety. Its plan is to tackle myriad aspects of wellness and human behavior, and take on one market after another in the process.
