Role
Who you are
- A relevant degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
- 4+ years of software engineering experience
- Ability to design and build technical solutions without direct oversight
- Knowledge of coding patterns and their applicable uses to write performant, testable code
- Experience with JUnit and mocking frameworks like Mockito and MockKExperience building with MVVM or similar architectural patterns
- Developing with scalability and maintainability is at the core of how you work
- You know how to build with and around the constraints of a large code base and take steps to improve it as you add to it
- You know how to work in a multidisciplinary team and how to get others onboard with your ideas. You’re also supportive of others’ ideas, even if you don’t agree
- You have some experience with the latest libraries and frameworks (Coroutines, Room, and Compose) and also some older technologies (such as Rxjava)
- Experience in a high-growth startup is a plus
- You appreciate simple design
- You love to write clean, well-tested code (test-first or test driven development approaches are a plus)
- You enjoy working with other engineers in a collaborative and iterative environment
- You communicate well with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- You likes mentoring junior engineers and helps organize squad members around project goals
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer at Favor, you will be responsible for all phases of development, testing, and deployment of our native Android applications
- You will work closely with our Product and Operations teams to understand customer needs, build simple solutions to complex problems, and deliver delightful experiences to all our users
- Assist in research and fact finding to develop or modify applications
- Participate in the planning and execution of development projects
- Partner with cross-functional technology teams to integrate solutions
- Fix bugs and perform updates to the code base while working closely with team members across
- Product, Design, and Engineering teams

More and more people are looking to get things delivered fast, and businesses are trying to find inventive ways to meet the demand and get people’s purchases to them as quickly as possible. Favor solves this problem, with an on-demand delivery service that depends on “runners” to get products to customers quickly.
Customers can browse on the Favor app and select items from their list or input items from other stores in the delivery zone, and Favor runners will collect the item and deliver it within an hour. For customers in a hurry, this is obviously appealing. While many on-demand delivery services struggle to scale, Favor itself has managed to scale its operations across Texas and expanded into Philadelphia in mid 2022.
This centralization has given the company an advantage over competitors who have since gone out of business, but it isn’t yet clear if other competitors will imitate Favor's approach to gain market share. The company faces strong challenges from deep-pocketed rivals like DoorDash and Uber Eats.
