Role

Who you are

  • 3+ years of experience as a People Manager and 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Mentor, coach, and aid in the development of team members
  • Set clear goals, and deliver them on time / at quality
  • Negotiate with partners, vendors, and customers (game teams / game creators / Tech Artists / Product.)
  • Experience architecting and coding backend/online services
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure (one of AWS, Azure, or Google)
  • Experience working with relational (one of MySQL, Oracle, or similar) and non-relational data stores (one of Mongo, Dynamo, or similar)
  • Experience working with containers (like Docker/similar) and fabrics (like Kubernetes/similar)
  • Proficiency in at least one backend/online service programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Go, Scala, or similar) and an ability to pick up/learn new programming languages
  • Experience integrating/working with GenAI and LLMs (e.g., GPT, Gemini, or similar)
  • Experience integrating/working with ML Platforms and Ops pipelines and products
  • Comfortable working in a remote or hybrid environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related technical field) or equivalent practical experience

What the job involves

  • This role reports to the Senior Technical Director
  • Team Management: Lead a small but dynamic team of ML Platform and Ops Engineers,, and Software Engineers, promoting an atmosphere of innovation and collaboration
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: Collaborate with Product Managers, Tech Artists, Software Engineers, and DevOps engineers to identify requirements
  • Solution Architecture: Work with engineers in the team to architect backend services to power our generative AI/ML platform, ensuring performance, scalability, and security. Document technical specifications and system designs for future reference
  • Technical Decision-making: Use your expertise to arbitrate technical decisions for the engineering team, and articulate/define the WHAT, HOW, and (in partnership with Product Management) WHY for our technology roadmaps
  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, promoting an environment of learning and improvement. Create and share best practices within the team. Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Quality & Code Reviews: Review completed engineering deliverables before release, ensuring that they meet our standards of quality and reliability
  • Risk Management: Identify potential technical risks and manage them, implementing mitigation strategies
  • Broad Technical Understanding: Develop an understanding of EA’s game technologies, engines, and strategies, ensuring that our development is aligned with EA’s broader goals
  • Coding and Debugging: You will write clean, well-structured, and maintainable code that follows best practices. You will also troubleshoot and debug issues to ensure smooth functioning of all of the services
