Who you are
- Roku is looking for a Director of Global Payroll who brings vast payroll expertise to our US and International Payroll Operations
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, business, or other relevant or related field or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience overseeing the processing of multi-state and multi-country payrolls for large exempt and non-exempt workforce with hands on responsibilities
- Experience with Workday systems and ADP Smart Compliance required NetSuite and Oracle ERP a plus
- Experience transforming a payroll function to maximize automation, scalability, and cost effectiveness
- Strong project management experience including the ability to manage project plans, dependencies, critical path activities and milestones
- Highly analytical, aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Must be able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and demands
- Excels in hyper-growth environments; versatile, capable of managing multiple projects and tasks
- Able to communicate effectively with teammates and various levels of management as well as external contacts
- Reliable, with a strong work ethic
- Demonstrates professionalism and maturity in handling confidential information
What the job involves
- You will partner and collaborate with Benefits, People Operations and Technology, Enterprise Engineering and Accounting teams to deliver payroll services that optimize operational excellence and create a deeper bench of experienced talent within the payroll production team
- This leader will be a key partner in developing and implementing strategies to systematically scale the payroll operations and related systems while maintaining quality, accuracy, internal controls and compliance
- This high impact position within the Finance organization will be based out of our Austin, Texas office
- Oversee teams of domestic and international payroll full cycle processing for US and International subsidiaries
- Recruit and develop the best-in-class talent that will be subject matter experts and points of contact for all internal and external payroll inquiries
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to scale and optimize the global payroll administration that can support new and existing payrolls in various regions
- Actively engage and collaborate with cross functional teams and leadership to ensure business objectives and priorities are met and executed effectively
- Lead, coach, mentor and train the team; take an active interest in their growth and develop the next generation of leaders
- Design and implement workflows and internal controls within systems to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately, timely and in compliance with International, federal, state, local and country specific laws and regulations
- Monitor the latest payroll and wage laws and regulations to ensure tax and benefits compliance is maintained within systems
- Ensure quarterly and annual filings and reporting requirements are executed with accuracy and are filed timely
- Participate in the design and implementation of internal controls and documentation in accordance with SOX and International/Federal/State compliance requirements
- Manage payroll-related financial closing activities for the month/quarter/year-end and external audits: Payroll journal entries, payroll-related account reconciliations and related balance sheet flux analytics
- Lead or assist on special tasks and projects as needed (e.g., external/statutory/compliance audits and filings, entity set up, system implementation, etc.)

Roku provides an integrated streaming service that offers TV channels, movies and third-party streaming services, resulting in an all-in-one streaming platform. The service can be accessed through a variety of customized subscription packages and fees.
Roku stands out in the streaming industry by bringing many competitors together in one package. The startup provides further innovative services such as a weekly TV series named 'Roku Recommends' which uses first-party data to recommend essential viewing to users. Alongside funding filmmakers through its "Change Makers Program", Roku also acquired its own original library of shows through its acquisition of now-defunct Quibi's library in 2021. After successful collaborations with TCL and Hisense, the first in-house "Roku Television" was released in 2023, further exemplifying the streaming company's wider ambitions in the media sector.
