Otta's take

CEO of Otta

Smart Cities are on the rise - not only for the environmental and logistical benefits they stand to offer, but also for the upwards of $20T in economic benefits they could bring into cities over the coming years. BABLE is a spin-off from Europe’s largest applied research institution, the Fraunhofer Research Society. Its aim is to help cities implement Smart City solutions, and to that end it offers management and consultancy services to help connect cities with the companies who can help them execute.

In doing so, BABLE has savvily connected two often overlooked dots: that there’s an increasing demand for urban planning and management solutions; and that many of these solutions may well already exist - the company just didn’t get the right funding and support to scale properly.

It’s an interesting niche to be filling. With the institutional pedigree of Fraunhofer, coupled with the general push in Western countries to catch up with the smart city transformations of the East, BABLE is successfully tapping into a growing and possibly highly lucrative sector.
