Role

Who you are

  • 3+ years of experience in human-computer interaction, design, statistics, computer science, etc
  • A portfolio of projects showcasing your design skills and ability to discuss challenges
  • Honesty about where you have opportunities to grow as a designer and willingness to learn from other designers
  • An understanding of the end-to-end iterative UX process, including wire-framing, prototyping, user research, and design systems; you can concept, prototype, design, and present solutions that solve user and business problems, delivering measurable outcomes
  • Proven self-motivated, detail-oriented craftsperson, able to work efficiently and effectively with other designers, developers, product managers and marketers

Desirable

  • Experience working with SMS services to create actionable experiences for users
  • Ability to adapt to new information and an openness to change conclusions when necessary; if one approach doesn’t work, you’re ready to try something else
  • Experience designing with Figma

What the job involves

  • Our Product Design team is organized into a series of product pillars, where multiple teams are contributing to the goals of a larger mission
  • This role sits within the Channel Infrastructure pillar that focuses on Klaviyo being the best multi-channel platform that actively guides customers to send to the right customer, at the right time, on the right channel to grow their business
  • The designers in the Channel Infrastructure pillar craft products and experiences that support the building of and maintenance of Klaviyo’s messaging capabilities
  • From the point when our customers schedule a campaign or enable a flow, the Channel infrastructure teams are responsible for how the messages are prepared for distribution, queued, processed, and sent via each possible channel (e.g. email, SMS, push, web, WhatsApp, automated conversations)
  • This requires strong customer empathy, market knowledge, and an innate knack for simplifying the complex
  • As an associate product designer, you will work under the mentorship of more senior designers to design solutions that help our customers succeed
  • Here at Klaviyo, we are proud of our user experience and make it fast, intuitive, and inspirational for our customers to send the right messages to their customers, at the right time, and on the right channel
  • Our team is looking for a Product Designer to partner with more senior designers to leverage our design system components and design out our production-ready design hand offs and prototypes
  • In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to be exposed to a range of product experiences across the Channel Infrastructure pillar as you work with the designers across the team
  • This is an opportunity to learn from great designers, hone your design craft, and have an impact on a wide range of products
  • You will also be expected to utilize your full range of product design, interaction design, and visual design skills, and – individually – maintain a level of ownership and expertise of SMS and mobile platforms at Klaviyo
  • Designing experiences that drive value for our customers under the guidance of more senior designers
  • Take broad conceptual designs and create a production ready prototype and design hand off
  • Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers and Content Designers to oversee the user experience of a product from conception until launch (and then some)
  • Give, solicit, and take feedback from other designers, engineers, and product managers to continually raise our bar for quality
  • Understand and co-own the success metrics for product areas

Our take

Klaviyo is a marketing firm helping growth-focused eCommerce brands drive more sales with super-targeted, highly relevant email, Facebook and Instagram marketing campaigns. From personalised newsletters to automated emails when customers abandon their shopping carts, the marketing automation platform makes it easy for businesses to capture, store, analyze, and predictively use their own data to drive measurable, high-value outcomes.

Klaviyo's CEO, Bialecki, believes that the main problem with e-mail marketing today is that there is a divide between two kinds of tools: analytics tools that help you understand what people are doing on a website, such as what products they are considering, and messaging tools that send them a marketing e-mail. Operating primarily within the retail and eCommerce industry, Klaviyo aims to solve this by offering a tool that brings together analytics and messaging. This allows companies to bring all of their first-party data into a single platform to get a deep understanding of their customers and then activate that data to deliver highly-targeted, personalised communications through email and SMS. In the process, Klaviyo's customers get a deep understanding of their consumers.

Klaviyo is a fast-growing company mainly due to its business model - the firm offers a concrete ROI for Klaviyo’s clients if the software persuades customers to make purchases by treating different types of customers differently. An IPO in 2023 has led to Klaviyo's release of Klaviyo AI, which empowers businesses to unlock revenue-driving opportunities and deliver exceptional customer experiences across channels. Still in its early days of public listing, it will be interesting to see how Klaviyo fares in the years to come.
