Who you are

  • 4+ years experience within a FCA regulated risk and compliance function
  • A love of building customer centric products and services
  • Experience in implementing the FCA Consumer Duty Rules and wider regulatory change
  • A strong understanding of the FCA’s SM&CR and the DISP, PROD, PRIN, COCON and SYSC handbooks, alongside a strong understanding of the FCA’s expectations in relation to vulnerable customers
  • Working knowledge of financial crime requirements, FCA regulations and JMLSG
  • Previous experience of providing both compliance advice and delivering compliance monitoring work
  • Excellent written and presentation skills, alongside a keen eye for detail
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to tailor information to the audience
  • Strong change and project management skills, including the ability to manage time well, prioritise effectively and handle multiple deadlines whilst working with (and directing) hybrid teams
  • Ability to problem solve and to suggest and implement solutions
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams across the business
  • A passion for personal development and for driving better ways of working. You’ll need to get stuck into a variety of areas as we build and evolve the function
  • The role requires an experienced risk and compliance professional with a solid understanding of the FCA regime and financial services legislation, including in relation to financial crime
  • A consumer hire, consumer credit and insurance distribution background is preferred, but candidates will be considered from any financial services background
  • Experience in risk management, as part of a Risk and Compliance function, is also desirable
  • In addition, the role requires someone who is comfortable feeding into and delivering against a plan, working both independently and as part of a team, as well as someone detail focused and capable of building good working relationships as part of a second line function, in a business that is rapidly scaling

Desirable

  • A strong working knowledge of the FCA regulations for consumer hire, consumer credit and insurance distribution
  • Risk management experience, for example with RCSAs and risk registers

What the job involves

  • We are looking for a FCA Compliance Manager who can help us deliver our mission to make it seamless for individuals and businesses to transition to zero-carbon driving
  • Joining a growing function, you will work alongside another Manager reporting into the Head of Risk and Compliance
  • You will be responsible for delivering the risk and compliance team goals which includes work to establish and evolve the function as well as delivering comprehensive and tailored risk and compliance advice and detailed assurance reviews
  • Collaborating on, delivering and continually strengthening our risk and compliance strategy and framework
  • Leading and reporting on our risk and compliance monitoring and advisory programs including delivering monitoring reviews
  • Overseeing annual fit and proper assessments under the FCA’s SM&CR
  • Producing timely and accurate risk and compliance management information - presenting that information to the business, leadership team and where necessary, the Board
  • Ensuring that our governance framework evolves alongside the business and that we have appropriate and up-to-date policies, processes and internal reporting
  • Ensuring that all FCA reporting requirements and communications are handled appropriately and promptly. This includes completing reporting in Reg Data and supporting applications on the FCA Connect platform
  • Keeping abreast of regulatory requirements and changes, and ensuring that the firm’s horizon scanning and regulatory change programme is forward looking
  • Delivering risk and compliance training to the business and overseeing the risk and compliance mandatory training programme
  • Being a key point of contact for the business on all risk and compliance matters and deputising for the Head of Department as required
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with other oversight functions, not just in Electric Vehicles, but across the Octopus Group

They aim to make the eco‐friendly choice the easy choice, so all of their tariffs use 100% green electricity, while not being more expensive than their competitors' non-green tariffs.

They are continually creating innovative new products. For example, Octopus Tracker where prices changes daily to guarantee you get the market rate; Agile where the price changes every half hour to enable you to benefit from cheap electricity when the sun shines, the wind blows, and the networks are under-utilised. One of the current challenges they face is that their products are more complex than their competitors, given they use 1000x more data than traditional energy companies. They're exploring ways to explain to customers exactly how their products work.
