- 3+ years of experience managing teams
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Experience working with backend tech / distributed systems (e.g. C++, Spanner)
- Execution mindset

- Experience leading an organization through a time of technical or product change; experience in a startup environment
- Experience working in cross functional environments including nontechnical stakeholders
- Experience with Google infrastructure (e.g. Flume, Borg, Protocol Buffers)
- Experience in the following domains: logistics, operations tooling, ride hailing / delivery
- Experience in optimization, operations research, or relevant ML-based approaches
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Staff TLM to help build something that has never been built before - automated, optimized fleet management for autonomous vehicles at scale
- In this hybrid role ,you will report to the Technical Lead Manager for Fleet Infrastructure
- Manage a team of 8+ SWEs within Commercialization Engineering
- Guide the short-term roadmap and long term technical vision of the team
- Collaborate with Operations, Product, Data Science, and other engineering teams to develop systems and processes as our needs grow and evolve
- Navigate uncertainty, solving large, open-ended problems
Our take
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company that began as the Google self-driving car project in 2009. After initial development, it secured permits to deploy autonomous ride-hailing services in cities including Phoenix and San Francisco, but has recently hit a major bump in the road with safety concerns that resulted in a recall of over 400 self-driving cars.
With the autonomous driving industry already besieged by setbacks and public distrust, this development does Waymo no favours. That said, as an industry leader there remains the possibility it will see out the storm, but massive attention will need to be given to rebuilding trust with consumers if this is to be the case.
