What the job involves

  • In this role, you’ll be given the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies to build resilient, scalable systems for collecting and analyzing extensive data sets
  • Your responsibilities will include creating and managing data pipelines, data structures, and reports
  • This involves working closely with a marketplace support team to thoroughly explore the various aspects of operations, including the functionalities of existing tools and current workflows
  • Identify stakeholders’ data needs, define the project scope, and select the right implementation to address stakeholder pain points
  • Bridge the gap between the domain requirements and technology during the tool selection process. Your role involves ensuring that the chosen technology aligns with those requirements and the overall domain strategy
  • Maintaining constant communication with stakeholders regarding project progress, blockers, and expected timelines is crucial
  • Establish trust with stakeholders by consistently delivering high-quality data sets in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to continuously automate and improve existing workflows and/or processes
  • Align with stakeholders regarding their strategic goals and roadmap items on a semi-annual basis
  • Follow and contribute to best coding practices established by the team
  • Develop, deploy and maintain workflow management tools such as Airflow, Jenkins etc in cloud environments
  • Using cloud technology such as AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Redshift, EMR

Our take

Turo is the world’s largest car rental marketplace. The comparisons with AirBnb are obvious but not unfounded - ‘hosts’ make their cars available to ‘guests’ who benefit from short-term rentals without the cost of purchasing their own automobile.

The startup has reinvented the car-rental marketplace, previously dominated by incumbents like Avis. By allowing users to rent directly from the car owner themselves, Turo is bringing transparency, efficiency, and liquidity to the industry while hosts earn additional income.

Perhaps one of the biggest challenges the company needs to overcome is similar to those that plagued other major sharing-economy companies like Uber - regulation. Specifically Turo faces disputes over bad-faith hosts and from incumbent players, especially regarding airport use. Since its 2022 IPO, Turo has been eyeing further global expansion and targeting a series of strategic acquisitions and partnerships which will expand its product suite for hosts and guests alike.
