Role
Who you are
- 4+ years of professional experience building and deploying solutions in production that leverage ML models while keeping scalability, security, observability, testability and privacy in mind
- 1+ years of experience building and deploying solutions in production that leverage LLMs in particular
- Strong knowledge of and experience leveraging AI/ML concepts, NLP, deep learning as well as supervised learning, LLMs, RAGs & generative AI
- Proficient in using LangChain, TensorFlow, Keras, etc
- Experience building SaaS applications deployed on AWS
- Interested in functional languages like Elm and Haskell and comfortable working with languages like Python & Ruby
- Experience with MLOps, data engineering and data management a plus

What the job involves
- We're looking for an AI/ML Engineer to join our team and help us achieve our mission of unlocking every writer’s potential
- As an AI/ML Engineer at NoRedInk, you’ll build features as part of collaborative teams of product managers, designers and other engineers all focused on helping teachers more easily assign & grade authentic writing assignments that students are able to complete with confidence as they hone their language and writing skills
- Collaborate with the team to architect, build and deploy features that leverage AI/ML models generally and LLMs in particular, including fine-tuning, prompt engineering, model validation
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into existing infrastructure, optimizing scalability, operation, accuracy and cost
- Evaluate advancements in AI/ML methods and technologies and assess their applicability to our objectives, ultimately translating business needs into technical solutions that add value
- Identify opportunities to enhance our AI/ML technology stack by building or recommending tools, technologies & processes to manage AI/ML models & related features
- Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the company by sharing knowledge and expertise in AI technologies
Our take
Edtech company NoRedInk is on a mission to help students in grades 4-12 become better writers. The foundational issue the company addresses is that graded papers don’t offer meaningful feedback on how students can improve the quality of their writing and the basic problem they face is how to quantify and teach according to these unwritten rules.
The solution they’ve come up with is a platform that provides targeted, adaptive practice exercises built around engaging content that yields actionable data for educators to monitor a student’s progress. It might seem that this puts them in competition with the AI-based correction app Unicorn Grammarly, but this would be missing the point. The idea is to provide an interactive learning and teaching resource, not simply correct mistakes once made.
It’s won the platform impressive funding in recent years, boosted no doubt by surging VC interest in the edtech sector that’s seen investment in it rise to over $16B globally. With half of US school districts already using the platform, NoRedInk looks set to establish a leading position going forwards.
