- 10+ years of experience in technical program management at a technology company or in a technical capacity
- Proven ability to work with engineering, product, design, and operations teams to understand and improve developer needs and platform capabilities
- Strong knowledge of API design and best practices, including API gateways, versioning, security, and monitoring
- Strong knowledge of code coverage tools (e.g., SonarQube) and practices to ensure high-quality code across platform
- Experience setting and tracking KPIs (e.g., developer velocity, API uptime, and latency) to measure platform success and identify areas for improvement
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex technical programs on time and within budget
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate through ambiguity and drive clarity
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
Desirable
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies and how they can be leveraged to enhance developer productivity (e.g., intelligent code suggestions, automated error detection)
- Understanding of SRE principles to optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability through automation and monitoring
- Familiarity with blockchain technology and cryptocurrency ecosystems
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP, CSM) is a plus
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Technical Program Manager to join the Strategic Programs team. You will be responsible for the strategy, planning, and execution of programs that drive improvements in the quality of internal Coinbase APIs and developer productivity
- Lead large scale programs that continuously improve service quality through increased adoption of the Internal Service Platform
- Drive improvements in the quality of our internal APIs and their documentation making them easily discoverable and reusable
- Implement measures to enhance developer satisfaction and improve the usability of service documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and drive enhancements in service hygiene, efficiency, reliability, and security
- Be accountable for roadmap delivery including adoption and success criteria as defined in collaboration with your stakeholders
- Lead engineering, product, and design teams to support program goals, objectives, and key results (OKRs)
- Monitor program status, identify issues / risks, succinctly communicate issues, and proactively collaborate
Our take
Coinbase allows its users to create their own crypto wallets and start buying or selling cryptocurrencies by connecting with their bank accounts. It also provides a series of merchant payment processing systems and tools that support transactions with many popular websites.
Coinbase has recently made a big push to broaden its services away from consumers and they want to cater services from institutional investors.
Coinbase currently offers one of the largest selection of cryptocurrency assets - over 10,000 but does not allow trading on all of them. The company wisely keeps such offerings to the most stable assets however, the list is always expanding. Coinbase see a much wider adoption of cryptocurrency and tokens in the future, and plan to expand potentially to millions in the future. It speaks volumes to Coinbase's goals of wider global adoption that former UK Finance Minister George Osborne is now an Advisor at the company.
Coinbase's lofty ambitions paid off in it being the first crypto listing on the NASDAQ. The company has weathered several bull and bear runs in the cryptocurrency industry through diversification of its offerings, including wallet-as-a-service technology for crypto platforms, and has acquired healthy coffers of cryptocurrency assets. The aim is to eventually operate independently of the volatility surrounding cryptocurrencies.
