Who you are
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required
- Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Ireland
- Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union
- Successful candidates will have a technical background, be detail driven and have excellent problem-solving abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical or business field
- 6+ years of experience managing technical programs across cross-functional development teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
Desirable
- Experience in software architecture and system design
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to scale the businesses and provide reporting to senior leadership
- Strong sense of ownership, including an ability to promote operational excellence
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Experience with AWS platforms, services and design patterns
What the job involves
- AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced Technical Program Managers with a strong background in program management and working with Software Engineers
- As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers
- European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is a part of AWS Utility Computing (UC)
- AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry
- As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS
- Within AWS UC, Managed Operations engineers engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services
- In this role you will work closely with the software development and product teams to deliver high quality, scalable products deployed around the world
- You will collaborate with the product teams to deliver the best product with most efficient use of resources and technologies
- You will work with all the stakeholders to assemble project teams, assign responsibilities, identify appropriate resources needed, and develop schedules to ensure timely completion of projects by meeting project milestones
- You will also assess risks, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, make tradeoffs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints and encourage risk-taking behavior to maximize business benefit

The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.
More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.
Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
