Role

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field (e.g. mathematics, statistics, finance, computer science, engineering, etc.)
  • 3+ years’ experience in data analysis, preferably working with large data sets in OLAP databases
  • 1+ years’ experience with SQL (intermediate to advanced aptitude level)
  • Experience with data modeling
  • 1+ years’ experience in business analysis (intermediate aptitude level)
  • Experience working with a Business Intelligence tool
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Experience working with Python (basic level)
  • Experience working with Postgres or similar relational databases
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum
  • Experience in financial technology / lending a plus
  • Ability to participate in a support rotation to provide escalation support which may occur outside of business hours

What the job involves

  • Avant is looking for a Associate Data Analytics Engineer, to play a crucial role in building and evolving our data model to meet a range of business initiatives
  • This position is suited for someone who is driven to understand complex problems and use technology to build robust solutions
  • You will work with teams throughout the company understand their operational, regulatory, and reporting needs, and develop a mature model to enable their data-driven decisions
  • Collaborate with product and operational teams to enable and promote data-driven decision making
  • Model new data sets that can be incorporated into a Databricks and DBT-based platform
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and users to define clear and well-structured business requirements for our data assets
  • Support the delivery of data for key customer and operational processes
  • Ensure the quality of data received and produced
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for improvement in Avant’s data resources
  • Mentor teammates and be a part of a culture of learning

Avant is not alone in this space, but by expanding its offering to banking products as well, it has increased its customer appeal and its reach. The company has recently received a large investment from Ares Management Alternative Credit Funds, enabling it to expand its credit portfolio and further develop its platform.

Having studied at the University of Illinois, they spent a year as a Software Engineer at CashNetUSA and Enova Financial. They founded Debteye in 2011, before starting Avant in 2013, serving since 2019 as CTO.
