Role
Who you are
- Minimum 2+ years of experience as a software product manager, ideally for a developer product, and 4+ years of experience in overall technical roles
- Experience defining product functional specifications including API, CLI and GUI
- Strong written communication skills and experience working in a collaborative and remote environment
- Strong technical competency, especially with distributed data systems, public and private clouds, and stream processing
- Experience liaising with cross-functional teams, communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
Desirable
- Experience as a Product Manager for a SaaS company is ideal
- Experience in working with Open Source communities is a plus
- Basic coding experience is great to have!
What the job involves
- The Stream Processing & Analytics team at Confluent owns our Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink product and is on a mission to build the first truly cloud-native, complete and secure stream processing platform
- We enable our customers to derive valuable insights and take immediate actions from their data in motion
- We are looking for a seasoned Product Manager for our Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink product, who will help define a strategic roadmap for this area, maintain a tight feedback loop with our customers, and work closely with our engineering teams
- Possible areas of focus include elasticity, autoscaling, multi-tenancy and observability
- Develop a strategic vision of where to invest our effort to help our customers succeed
- Think through a great end-to-end product experience with a focus on detailed user stories
- Create a roadmap to deliver that experience to customers
- Engage with customers, users and internal stakeholders to discover new product opportunities and to create a feedback loop throughout delivery
- Align with other teams to ensure our roadmap is unified and unblocked
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time.
The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
