Who you are

  • This role will require a deep understanding of the product communications, tech media relations, corporate PR, executive thought-leadership, and brand storytelling
  • Extensive experience in building and scaling communications and PR programs, with a focus on product communications, within B2B or B2B2C companies
  • Excellent media relationships across a diverse set of outlets and formats as well as a passion for staying ahead of shifts in how and where to tell earned stories
  • You love to keep your finger on the pulse and are bold, creative and strategic thinker with attention to detail and a deep understanding of what it takes to execute impactful product communications
  • Thrive in fast-paced, fluid and challenging environments and love to collaborate across marketing functions
  • Highly comfortable working with senior leadership and executives on all things PR
  • A skilled writer and a natural storyteller who has a desire to create content that isn’t bland and a knack for writing eye-catching headlines
  • Proven experience in data storytelling (and working with data teams) and crafting and executing communications on technical subject matter
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple time-sensitive projects under tight deadlines
  • Bonus if you’ve had experience in and/or are passionate about entrepreneurship, small business, commerce and marketing trends

What the job involves

  • The Brand Marketing & Communications team is responsible for telling the story of how Klaviyo empowers businesses to build smarter digital relationships with their consumers
  • The team is a fast-growing, high-impact group that works cross-functionally with key business stakeholders, touching every corner of the organization
  • Klaviyo is looking for a Lead, Product Communications to drive our earned media efforts, anchoring messaging to the company's mission and narrative, while working closely with key stakeholders to drive forward business objectives
  • The role will be a critical part of helping elevate our platform story, working closely with product marketing
  • This role can be based in Boston, NYC or San Francisco and will report to the Senior Director, PR
  • Develop PR and communications strategies to elevate Klaviyo’s platform story, reach our core audiences and drive awareness of our growing product innovations
  • Develop messaging, narratives and content that clearly positions Klaviyo’s value proposition and differentiated product capabilities
  • Continuously cultivate and leverage relationships with top journalists, media and influencers across business, tech and all other relevant categories and mediums (e.g. podcasts, substacks/newsletters, content creators and commerce influencers)
  • Collaborate closely with product marketing to amplify our products, identify storytelling moments, ensure a steady drumbeat of coverage and continuously improve our product communications efforts
  • Work cross-functionally with other relevant teams including brand, social media, data science, content, partner marketing, events and others on messaging and strategies
  • Create and own earned media strategies for our product launches, quarterly releases and other major company moments
  • Develop a deep understanding of Klaviyo’s customers and products and stay on top of macro-topics and trending stories where we can drive thought leadership and ensure Klaviyo’s relevance (e.g. entrepreneurship/SMB, commerce, AI, digital marketing)
  • Help further identify and develop our bench of spokespeople within our product organization; prep and support them during media opportunities
  • Proactively generate creative story ideas for earned media to gain share of voice for Klaviyo’s platform and our products
  • Help lead and develop a PR team focused on both corporate and product communications as well as an external media relations agency
  • Manage inbound media requests and support the analyzation of PR results

From personalised newsletters to automated emails when customers abandon their shopping carts, the marketing automation platform makes it easy for businesses to capture, store, analyze, and predictively use their own data to drive measurable, high-value outcomes.

Klaviyo's CEO, Bialecki, believes that the main problem with e-mail marketing today is that there is a divide between two kinds of tools: analytics tools that help you understand what people are doing on a website, such as what products they are considering, and messaging tools that send them a marketing e-mail. Operating primarily within the retail and eCommerce industry, Klaviyo aims to solve this by offering a tool that brings together analytics and messaging. This allows companies to bring all of their first-party data into a single platform to get a deep understanding of their customers and then activate that data to deliver highly-targeted, personalised communications through email and SMS. In the process, Klaviyo's customers get a deep understanding of their consumers.

Klaviyo is a fast-growing company mainly due to its business model - the firm offers a concrete ROI for Klaviyo’s clients if the software persuades customers to make purchases by treating different types of customers differently. An IPO in 2023 has led to Klaviyo's release of Klaviyo AI, which empowers businesses to unlock revenue-driving opportunities and deliver exceptional customer experiences across channels. Still in its early days of public listing, it will be interesting to see how Klaviyo fares in the years to come.
