What the job involves

  • The Dasher & Logistics team is responsible for ensuring every delivery is completed with speed, accuracy and a positive Consumer, Merchant and Dasher experience. Our Dasher & Logistics owns initiatives that touch all parts of the Dasher life cycle ranging from supply & demand, to cost & quality, to Dasher pay, to Dasher retention, to order batching and beyond.
  • You will sit at the confluence of our logistics system and the Dasher experience with big business impact
  • Your goal is to reduce cost per delivery by finding efficiencies both in the delivery process and the Dasher Pay Model, getting into the weeds and really understanding what's happening on the ground, developing a solution, then scaling that impact through working with our product teams
  • Impact of doing this well is hundreds of millions of dollars of value per year, which we can reinvest right back into our audiences as better earnings for Dashers and lower prices for Consumers. You will report into the Senior Director of Logistics in our Strategy & Operations organization
  • Build analyzes to create data-driven decisions
  • Bring together partners from across the organization to build a plan
  • Lead and develop a team to keep pushing the limits of success
  • Figure out how to get from A to B–then actually make it happen

DoorDash was an early entrant into the last-mile restaurant delivery business, which is now crowded with the likes of Uber Eats, Postmates and GrubHub. They offer restaurants an end-to-end delivery platform, generating new business and access to a network of delivery drivers.

To differentiate itself in the market, DoorDash focused on areas with fewer competitors and found success in this untapped market. Other factors, such as the company's targeting of restaurants which many not typically offer a delivery service, also contribute to its profitability. The company made its stock market debut in 2020 with one of the biggest IPOs of the year.

However, in light of increasing discontent around DoorDash's commission structure from restaurants, competition remains fierce. The business recently responded by publishing a transparent fee structure, but the number of options open to restaurants means DoorDash must fight to keep its customers loyal. Despite this, by focusing on consumer retention, logistics and technology, the company is likely able to maintain its existing growth and revenue.
