Who you are

  • Experience working with US-based product users is ideal, (but not a deal-breaker!)
  • Significant previous experience in leading a User Research team in a B2C product business
  • You can take a problem (however vague or complex), create a research plan and execute it at speed
  • You’re comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and know when to apply them
  • You have experience with remote testing methodologies
  • You’re an excellent communicator, with heaps of empathy for both your team and our users!
  • You’re someone who cares deeply about understanding other humans and their relationships with money, in all their complex forms
  • You’ve got a great grounding in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, and exercise these to deliver game-changing insights at pace
  • You’re excited to help everyone learn and test new things everyday

What the job involves

  • As we enter the next phase, we’re looking for more improvisers, data geeks and grown ups who want to own their work and create meaningful change
  • You’ll be working day-to-day in a cross-functional squad, working out what makes our users tick, and building products that empower them
  • You’ll also join our design guild made up of UX Writers, Product Designers and User Researchers
  • We want to build an outstanding research function at Cleo, and you’ll play an important role in determining what that looks like
  • Leading the User Research team at Cleo, responsible for planning and delivery of different user research projects to help us build new features and iterate on existing ones
  • Manage the roadmap for User Research and vision, creating space within the team for foundational work that isn't specific to a squad and feature
  • Gain an immense amount of knowledge but also a very high-level understanding and strategic outlook about how User Research at Cleo marries up with the rest of the company
  • Analysing findings and communicating actionable insights back to your team and the wider business
  • Getting your team excited about, and involved in, research at every stage, from drafting interview scripts to live calls with customers
  • Ensuring that our designs are customer-centric, running workshops to inform ideation and improvements
  • Empowering others in the business to run their own research projects, upskilling them in qualitative techniques

Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers.

Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.

Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
