Who you are
- Professional experience with some combination of Python, Ruby, JavaScript and/or other computer language
- Interest in working on technical projects from inception to delivery
- Able to operate and monitor highly available systems in production, or willing to quickly learn how to do so
- Pride in writing testable, modular, maintainable, simple, and well-documented code
- Experience with web application and/or distributed systems development
- Feeling right at home in the terminal
- Strong written and oral communication skills
What the job involves
- As a Software Engineer, you will join one of the many cross-functional engineering teams to work alongside Product, Design and other developers to bring your engineering skill to bear on exciting business challenges
- You will work with some fantastic engineers to solve tough problems in delivering world-class financial products to our customers at scale
- You will work with a wide variety of technologies and help investigate new ones as we are constantly striving to keep our technology choices up to date
- As an engineering team, we deeply care about being the best in our craft - Performance, Reliability, Reusability, Code Quality, Test Coverage, and Observability
- You will help maintain the current bar we have but will hopefully go on to raise it to the next level
- Writing clear, concise, elegant, and well-tested code in Python, Ruby, and/or JavaScript
- Working as part of a small, agile, integrated product team that’s focused on continual improvement of their skills and helping each other learn new things
- Learning new technical skills with tools or frameworks needed to execute on tasks
Our take
Over 90% of all businesses in North America are zero to five employee companies. These businesses are organising their finances either by paying an expensive accountant, or relying on traditional spreadsheets.
In response, Wave is democratising access to financial services software. While they are not the first to do this, they have taken the flourishing approach of giving away the invoicing and accounting software 100% for free.
The company instead makes money by embedding financial services products within the software. It's these payments and other revenue streams that the startup is now looking to expand to secure more revenue to scale.
While the company has had success so far with its tools, it will need to build a whole suite of products and services in order to compete with the accounting software giants like Xero.
