Who you are

  • The successful candidate needs to be a hands-on transactional lawyer, with exceptional communication skills, capable of providing sound legal and business advice to sales professionals, product management, and other internal customers
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience working in in-house legal department and/or law firm negotiating and drafting licensing and other commercial agreements, with experience counselling on media and cross-border deals preferred
  • Admitted to the roll of solicitors in England & Wales or called to the bar
  • Ability to counsel clients across diverse geographies and cultures and to work collaboratively as part of a global team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent judgment and high level of professional integrity
  • Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

What the job involves

  • You will be part of the commercial legal team that provides supports across the Reuters business and will report to an Assistant General Counsel on the team
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and analysing legal issues, drafting and negotiating documents, presenting commercially viable recommendations, and assuring legal compliance
  • Draft, review, negotiate and manage a variety of commercial contracts for Reuters News business, including license agreements, channel partner agreements, advertising agreements, and other related media distribution agreements
  • Provide practical day-to-day commercial legal support to Reuters business globally
  • Work with Sales, Commercial Policy, Product and other cross-functional teams in Reuters business to identify creative legal solutions for commercial transactions and mitigate legal and commercial risks
  • Collaborate with other members of the Thomson Reuters legal team on enterprise-wide legal projects, including developing playbooks, fallback positions and other knowledge sharing tools to help scale commercial legal support for the Reuters business
