Who you are

  • Currently enrolled in or will receive a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Tech with a graduation date in 2026
  • Basic knowledge of at least one functional scripting language (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby, shell scripting)
  • Basic knowledge of Networking and Databases
  • Basic knowledge of Operation Systems Windows and/or Linux

Desirable

  • Knowledge of internet fundamentals and cloud computing concepts
  • Familiarity with Database, Storage, & Big Data concepts
  • Knowledge of Networking fundamentals like CIDR notations, OSI model, DNS, HTTP, TCP/UDP, DHCP, routing, switching, subnets, NAT
  • Comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Customer facing work experience

  • A day in the life:
  • First and foremost, this is a customer support role in the Cloud
  • On a typical day, a support engineer will be primarily responsible for solving customer’s cases through customer contact channels (e.g., telephone, email, and web/live chat)
  • You will apply troubleshooting techniques to provide solutions for our customers by thoughtfully working with customers to dive deep into the root cause of an issue
  • An AWS support engineer may also develop and train, partner with development teams on complex issues or contact deflection initiatives, participate in new hiring, write tools/script to help the team, or work with leadership on process improvement and strategic initiatives
  • We promote advancement opportunities across the organization to help you meet your career goals

  • Support engineers interested in travel have presented training or participated in focused summits across our sites or at specific AWS events
  • As we operate on a follow-the-sun model, with Premium Support sites located globally, there is no after hours on-call or mandated overtime in this role
  • If you’re successful during your internship, you could be considered for a graduate role after finishing your university studies
  • The internship start date will be February 2025 for a duration of 6 months

Our take

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
