What the job involves

  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is what you get when you treat system operations as a software engineering problem
  • The mission of the Site Reliability Engineering group is to provide services, tooling, and guidance to Klaviyo's product engineers to make them more productive and ensure their services are sufficiently reliable, scalable, and secure
  • The SRE Security team provides engineers at Klaviyo with secure-by-default frameworks, services, and systems that allow them to focus on writing and shipping customer-facing feature code
  • Our mission is to establish a foundation for secure software architecture and development by offering easy to use access management services, automate vulnerability management functions, increase visibility into platform security, enhancing secrets management, and making sure designs allow for security to be baked in
  • Manage 4-6 Site Reliability Engineers in Klaviyo's Boston office and remotely
  • Help individuals on your team develop and execute SMART goals and personal development plans that align with Klaviyo's goals and objectives, and understand how their work fits into the bigger picture
  • Interview, hire, and level up the SRE Security engineering team
  • Work with the team on project planning and defining milestones, identifying dependencies, and meeting business goals
  • Participate in deep system design and implementation discussions within your team and across partner teams to ensure that we're building the right systems and keeping quality high
  • Level up the team through hands-on coaching and individual contribution. This includes pairing with direct reports to design, write, and deliver software to improve the scalability, reliability, and security of Klaviyo's systems
  • Iterate and improve upon engineering-wide processes like recruiting, onboarding, performance management, communication, and Agile software development

Klaviyo's CEO, Bialecki, believes that the main problem with e-mail marketing today is that there is a divide between two kinds of tools: analytics tools that help you understand what people are doing on a website, such as what products they are considering, and messaging tools that send them a marketing e-mail. Operating primarily within the retail and eCommerce industry, Klaviyo aims to solve this by offering a tool that brings together analytics and messaging. This allows companies to bring all of their first-party data into a single platform to get a deep understanding of their customers and then activate that data to deliver highly-targeted, personalised communications through email and SMS. In the process, Klaviyo's customers get a deep understanding of their consumers.

Klaviyo is a fast-growing company mainly due to its business model - the firm offers a concrete ROI for Klaviyo’s clients if the software persuades customers to make purchases by treating different types of customers differently. An IPO in 2023 has led to Klaviyo's release of Klaviyo AI, which empowers businesses to unlock revenue-driving opportunities and deliver exceptional customer experiences across channels. Still in its early days of public listing, it will be interesting to see how Klaviyo fares in the years to come.
