Company mission

Smol's mission is to provide high-quality, ethical and affordable everyday products directly to customers.

Role

Who you are

  • Commercially minded: able to look beyond the data to the insight it is generating and design reports accordingly
  • 2+ years of experience in a data-oriented role. Experience with Looker, GA4 or A/B testing would be a bonus
  • Passionate about working in a start-up environment and driving eco-friendly sustainable lifestyles for everyone
  • A driven, ambitious individual who’s looking to continue to build their career at an exciting, fast-growing company
  • A proactive self-starter who combines a bias for action, comfort with ambiguity, analytical rigour and a willingness to learn
  • Comfortable with working remotely
  • Some of us regularly meet in London every 2 weeks, so the ability to travel to London is ideal, but by no means essential

Desirable

  • Any experience in our key analytical tools (Looker, GA4, A/B testing)
  • Prior experience working at a start-up or D2C company

What the job involves

  • We are looking for someone who is curious, business minded and looking to step up their data skills
  • Reporting to our senior data analyst and working across the business, you will be working with a range of tools and methodologies to bring insights across the business
  • Your work will be vital in helping speed up our decision making
  • You’ll work daily with Looker (our BI Tool), SQL, Convert (our tool for A/B tests) and Google Analytics
  • Using SQL, Looker and GA4 to solve business problems and answer business questions
  • Prioritising work coming from numerous stakeholders with competing deadlines
  • Managing your workload with larger projects as well as smaller data requests
  • Working with new data sources as our product continues to evolve
  • Becoming the third member of a growing data function within smol's Growth team
  • The opportunity to own an area of our reporting, depending on your skillset and interests
  • As a member of our growth team, helping to drive increased value in the business and working with stakeholders from across the entire company

Otta's take

Sam Franklin headshot

Sam Franklin

CEO of Otta

Smol's business model is simple: deliver homecare products directly to the customer. In doing so, it cuts out the middle man, allowing customers to save up to 50% against traditional supermarket brands.

Not only do its products match or better the leading brands in tests, they also suit customers' desire for ethical consumption. All Smol products are ethically sourced, 100% vegan and are shipped in recyclable packaging. With its convenient, subscription-based postal plan, Smol is beginning to establish a firm customer base for the long term.

The homecare sector is not an easy one to break into and is dominated by three key players: Unilever, P&G, and RB. However, these major brands rely heavily on relationships with retailers and the high street, and by selling directly to the consumer, Smol undercuts the market by bypassing the need for big retailers. It benefitted from market disruption over the past few years due to this approach.

The key focus for Smol is to secure a strong place in the industry. If it can do this, it will likely see considerable success. Led by industry experts and with promising products, Smol has great potential and will likely see huge growth over the next few years.
