Our take

With the increasingly digitised customer shopping experience, even store-bought products are beginning to see digital elements introduced. “Phygital” packaging such as connected or smart packaging utilises QR codes and other elements that can be scanned with a smartphone to unlock new brand experiences. This helps companies connect with their customers on an even more personal level. The user experience though, needs to be devised and curated first.

Motif builds products for enterprise companies that are mainly focused on connected packaging. Part agency and design studio and part tech engineers, Motif works with large companies such as Kellogg to create connected packaging experiences, the new frontier of retail.

Connected packaging is especially lucrative due to the customer data gained by companies from product interactions, meaning that Motif could be a highly successful venture. Keeping its clients close to its chest and self-describing as a “skunkworks” - a group within an organization given a high degree of autonomy and tasked with working on advanced or secret projects - it’ll be interesting to see the work it develops over the coming years.
