Company mission

Clio's mission is to build cloud-based and client-centred technology that will transform the legal experience for all.

Role

Who you are

  • We’re looking for an experienced design research leader who believes that research is a team effort and that empathy, passion, and storytelling are foundational to creating great experiences
  • You bring research expertise balanced with a pragmatic approach to help teams reach their goals with velocity
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience managing design researchers
  • Strong experience in qualitative and quantitative research, with a focus on influencing product roadmaps and delivering delightful customer experiences
  • Experience working in a complex space that targets many different types of users
  • Strong skills applying multiple research methodologies, including data collection, analysis and synthesis
  • A high level of comfort working within a self-directed culture and navigating ambiguity

What the job involves

  • We are currently seeking a UX Research Manager to join our Product Design team
  • We believe solid research is pivotal to crafting a shared understanding that helps inspire, design, and build the products that fuel Clio’s mission of transforming the legal experience for all
  • Your role will include both people management and research execution
  • You’ll evangelize design research across the R&D department through close collaboration with product, design and engineering
  • You’ll conduct generative and evaluative research to make sure we’re building the right thing and also building the thing right
  • You’ll partner with designers and product managers to build a stronger experience across our products
  • You’ll bring strength in both qualitative and quantitative research and know how to get the right answers to the questions we’re asking
  • You have great storytelling capabilities and can help the organization better understand what drives and motivates Clio’s customers. You are adept at sharing the right level of insight depending on the stakeholder you are talking to
  • You will synthesize research findings in an engaging and actionable way
  • You help teams action the research insights that they and your team uncover to make sure we’re getting the most value out of investing in research
  • You will directly manage Clio’s current researchers and help develop their careers and deepen their craft
  • You’ll have the opportunity to grow the design research team based on the needs of the department and Clio
  • You’ll collaborate closely with Clio’s other Strategic Research teams and coordinate initiatives across.
  • You’ll level up our research practice both within the research team but also the product and design teams more broadly
  • Like us, you are totally behind the idea that everyone should participate in research and you take that to heart

Our take

Modern law firms increasingly manage their work digitally but the lack of a specialised remote solution means that workflows have become fragmented. This leads to legal practice managers having to juggle multiple software solutions across various devices.

Clio provides a legal practice management platform designed for law firms, allowing users to manage billing for legal aid cases, access and manage documents and store files across multiple devices. Whilst other startups are operating in this niche, Clio has uniquely focussed on synchronisation across remote devices and on a wide range of integrations, allowing the user to access information from other industry standard software such as Xero and Klyant from within a single interface.

Clio has raised a large amount of investment capital, most recently in a 2021 Series E round which saw the company attain unicorn status with a valuation exceeding $1 billion. This funding is being used to accelerate its product development, hire additional talent, and for expansion into new markets with a focus on the EMEA region, particularly the UK and Ireland.
