Who you are
- A track record of turning AI/ML research into successful capabilities
- A strategic understanding of the Security applications of AI/ML technology
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams of Researchers and Engineers
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Experience in the training and tuning of large multi-modal models
- Master’s or Doctoral Degree in a quantitative science or engineering field
- 10+ years of experience solving complex problems using modern AI/ML techniques; at least five of them managing teams
- Experience with the full system development lifecycle, from requirement gathering, research, design, implementation, testing, through deployment/launch and operation
- Comfort working cross-functionally with Product and other Engineering teams
- Complete mastery of a subset of the languages, frameworks and tools currently used in the development of data intensive, machine learning systems, e.g. Spark, Airflow, Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch
- Ability to communicate project needs, status, outcomes and implications to technical and non-technical audiences, inside and outside the company
Desirable
- First-author publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences
- Expertise in natural language processing, especially practical experience developing or tuning modern, transformer-based language or multi-modal models
- Experience developing complex applications leveraging API-based LLMs
- Representation learning from scratch, especially for temporal sequences, multi-modal objects
- Lifelong learning systems driven by implicit and explicit product feedback
- Practical reinforcement learning techniques
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior AI Research leader who can grow and inspire teams of globally-distributed researchers and engineers, to further advance that mission
- As part of the AI Center of Excellence within the Engineering organization, the AI Research team undertakes both tactical and strategic projects, aimed at delivering products and enhancing SentinelOne’s AI capabilities
- You'll collaborate primarily with the AI Platform team to develop net new capabilities that will be used across SentinelOne’s industry-leading platform. In the course of this, you will:
- Take responsibility for the planning and delivery of long and short term research projects, including:
- Improving assistant behavior through privacy preserving feedback
- Automatic gathering of threat and process intelligence
- Methods for ranking diverse work items to maximise security
- Novel LLM-based detection frameworks
- Provide technical Leadership and Guidance: establishing research and coding standards, system design principles, and best practices; guiding your teams in overcoming technical challenges while ensuring that our research base remains efficient and maintainable
- Drive Solution Architecture and Design: designing research programs and systems that meet the requirements of a diverse stakeholder group
- Lead Collaboration and communication: collaborating closely with other group members and stakeholders including project managers, product owners, and other engineering teams; ensuring that technical options and decisions, and project timelines, are clearly communicated to all stakeholders
- Model Continuous Learning and Skill Development: helping the group and the broader team to stay up-to-date with the latest tools and techniques in both the machine learning and security fields; fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development; mentoring more junior colleagues

Cybercriminals are now leveraging the power of automation to make the current threat landscape too advanced for a lot of legacy antivirus software. SentinelOne is a cybersecurity company that matches this automation, with machine learning-focused software that is built to help businesses battle online attacks.
The company expanded the scope of its business from the endpoint security market to three markets valued at a combined $30 billion, including the corporate endpoint security and IT operations management markets. This gives SentinelOne a bigger potential customer base, although also puts them in direct competition with more focused cybersecurity companies, in addition to its biggest competitor, CrowdStrike.
When the company went public, it made financial headlines as the highest-valued cybersecurity IPO ever, which gave SentinelOne a market cap of $10B, though it's now fallen to around $4B. It has subsequently launched S Ventures, a $100M fund, through which SentinelOne invests in cybersecurity startups and has expanded its partnership with major tax firm KPMG to accelerate cyber investigations and responses to threats.
