Role

Who you are

  • Experience working with healthcare infrastructure, in AI/ML, and having worked in an early-stage startup environment is a big plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience as an engineer or technologist, with a proven track record of delivering successful products in or adjacent to the healthcare industry
  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering management experience with significant experience as a hands-on individual contributor, with the ability to read and write code
  • Deep understanding of modern healthcare SaaS platforms and their architecture
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You should be able to explain your approach and the impact of your work to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to attract talent and develop high performing teams. Proven recruiting experience as a hiring manager. You have experience hiring and growing all-star engineers
  • Experience defining and building new teams and departments from scratch
  • A strong sense of commercial intuition with experience tying business objectives to product features and development
  • An ability to navigate ambiguity, with a bias towards rapid execution over process
  • Experience working in an early stage startup environment. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable with a high-growth, dynamic environment, and possess the ability to balance agility with consistency as business priorities, user needs, and our competitive environment evolves
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and forecasting budgets
  • Preferred experience with AI/ML tools
  • Preferred experience in mental health technology; required experience in healthcare technology

What the job involves

  • Reporting to the General Manager, Stealth Venture, you will be in a high-visibility, high-impact role as a Director of Engineering over a new initiative
  • This is an opportunity to be the foundational member of an agile team for an innovative early stage product
  • You will be a part of a collaborative team identifying the opportunities and helping create the products that transform mental healthcare for the better
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a fast-paced, early-stage team of high-velocity engineers
  • Work with a cross-functional SWAT team of product managers, designers, data scientists, and marketers to rapidly innovate and execute against company priorities
  • Partner with engineering leadership to set standards, technical vision, and software architecture
  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics for quality and velocity and holding your teams accountable to them. Manage risks, dependencies and tradeoffs inevitable in complex project delivery
  • Be a coach, thought partner, and sounding board. You will help your team build problem-solving skills by practicing reflective listening, asking good questions, and giving timely, direct and kind feedback and encouragement
  • Recruit, engage, and retain great problem-solvers and collaborators. You’ll be responsible for building diverse, inclusive teams with all-stars that have a bias towards execution
  • Getting in the weeds in the development process of a 0-1 product initiative, playing a swiss army knife on engineering as needed
  • Launch an innovative, high-impact mental health product within 5 quarters
  • Hire and nurture a team of 0-1 engineers and data scientists
  • Maintain strong engineering team practices (e.g. minimizing code churn, cycle time, etc…)
  • Develop architectures that allow for integrations and scalable growth
  • This leader will be managing a fast-paced, agile engineering team, building 0-1 products that will shape the future of Spring

Otta's take

Large companies often provide employees with mental health services, but small businesses find it challenging to offer similar support. Additionally, existing support systems are usually generalized, failing to deliver the personalized mental healthcare that individuals need. To address this gap, Spring Health has developed AI-driven tools for employers to create tailored mental wellness plans for their employees, including treatment options, daily routines, and medication plans based on individual data.

Spring Health has recently expanded its services to the family and pediatric space through the acquisition of Weldon, offering mental wellness guidance to parents. This expansion includes chats with therapists, social workers, and parenting coaches, as well as group support with other parents and access to educational content. By focusing on personalized care, Spring Health aims to enhance mental wellness support for families alongside its existing employee services.

The behavioral health market is projected to grow to $242B by 2027. While many solutions prioritise fast access to therapy or meditation, Spring Health differentiates itself by emphasizing the right type of care for each individual. With substantial funding raised, Spring Health is well-positioned to continue its innovative approach to mental health services.
