Role

Who you are

  • You’re comfortable with many elements of the design process, from creating beautiful UI and interaction design, to well thought through UX design and research. We look for well rounded designers who can own the end to end design process within their squad, and love both the craft and strategy
  • You’re competent in designing simple and slick experiences for iOS and/or Android, and have examples of this in your portfolio
  • You’re pragmatic, so you can break down complex work into manageable chunks
  • Have experience running experiments to validate your hypothesis and building iterations based on what you learn
  • A strong communicator, able to communicate effectively and persuasively with your peers, leaders, and stakeholders no matter the seniority
  • Have hands-on experience with UX Research and user testing techniques and evidence of a data driven approach in your work
  • You have experience in workshop facilitation, can bring people together and align them on problem understanding and solution generation, no matter their background (i.e. marketing and commercial teams)
  • You’re a self starter, able to manage your own time effectively and set high expectations of yourself, planning out work to ensure deadlines are met with minimal supervision
  • You’re curious, always wanting to learn and discover new things about our customers, our business, and yourself
  • Have 3+ years of commercial B2C UX design experience (preferably on apps) and have experience working with commercial stakeholders to achieve business objectives

Desirable

  • You’re a visionary designer, often pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and thinking ‘future back’ to help us craft future proof experiences
  • You’re comfortable with a wide range of prototyping techniques at various speeds and levels of fidelity, and can use these to bring your ideas to life quickly
  • You have experience working with Design Systems
  • Have a great understanding of technology and are able to think in and out of its constraints

What the job involves

  • Working in our amazing Product & Design team, and collaborating with one of our talented Product Managers and Engineering Managers, you will be leading the design direction for one of our many agile squads
  • You will understand our customers’ needs by conducting research, analysing user feedback and leveraging user data to help us identify key opportunities we should explore to help us become the ultimate gifting companion, whilst validating and delivering your team's great ideas with customers as quickly as possible to truly create moments that matter
  • Driving a user centric approach to everything we do, embedding UX principles and a data driven approach in your teams work
  • Owning and delivering intuitive, efficient and delightful user experiences across our native apps (and website), working hand in hand with PMs and Engineers on a daily basis
  • Sketching, creating user journey maps, wireframes, mockups and prototypes, to improve the usability and accessibility of our product to meet user needs
  • Creating an inspiring vision and strategy with your team to help drive the direction of your squad
  • Working with our research team to conduct user research to inform your designs
  • Validating your own work with customers through our user testing tools to ensure you’re creating experiences that meet user needs
  • Collaborating with our peers in the data and analytics teams to ensure you’re making data driven decisions
  • Contributing reusable design components to our design system
  • Working collaboratively with other designers, product managers, researchers, engineers and stakeholders across teams such as marketing, commercial, brand, and content to help us achieve our business and customer goals together
  • You will be encouraged to work app first, considering native design patterns within your design and how we optimise for the small screen, before translating to web
  • Presenting your design decisions and vision to the wider design team and stakeholders to gain buy-in and inspire others to follow your user centric direction
  • Supporting experimentation plans to help validate your hypothesis and prove the impact of your design at pace

Our take

When Moonpig was founded in 2000, it bought into the idea that a personalised gift is always more meaningful, whether sent from the sofa, the commute, or the gym. Customers quickly bought into this vision, and Moonpig saw rapid growth culminating in its 2011 acquisition by Photobox for £120m.

Since then, Moonpig has seen continued success. Through expansion into new products such as flowers (Moonpig is now a top-3 online flower seller) and the development of its own app, Moonpig has established its place within the market for personalised gifts.

Now, Moonpig is looking to expand even further. Recent innovations have included the introduction of giant cards, and the company has also secured the ability to create exclusively branded ranges alongside Disney and Warner Brothers. Furthermore, with 90% of greetings cards being sold offline, Moonpig still has a huge potential for new growth.

Company values

  • Be Brave - When we see opportunities, big or small, we grab them. Our strong judgement and the knowledge that others have our back means we feel confident to take risks. Being brave comes in all shapes and sizes; sometimes it’s ‘just’ speaking up or giving a colleague some feedback that you know will help them grow. It’s about challenging, getting involved and making yourself heard
  • Raise the Bar - We take ownership, deliver on our promises and continuously strive to raise the bar in everything we do. We don’t just meet our goals, we exceed them - and we’re always thinking five steps ahead to figure out how we can increase our impact even further
  • Keep it Simple - We always strive to simplify both what we do and how we do it. That means that we focus on the things that will have the most impact, figure out the simplest way to deliver them and don’t, ever, over-complicate things
  • Think Team - We do what’s right to help everyone thrive – not what feeds our ego. We think beyond the boundaries of our immediate team and call on others to make magic happen across teams. We have deep levels of trust with one another and share information generously, but never excessively. We win together because we think of the ‘we’ before the ‘I’
