- A passion for building relationships and are responsible for the welfare of the engineering team you manage, including their professional development and growth. We're looking for managers that want to empower the team to achieve their professional and personal goals
- Experience working on technical user-facing products with frontends and APIs. Have exposure to SQL, databases and infrastructure software platforms
- Comfort managing full-stack teams in collaboration with tightly-nit product-engineering-design teams. Console has a very broad scope and is responsible for both backend services and the frontend application website
- Familiarity with a programming language like Go for the backend and Typescript/React on the frontend
- A solid product architecture knowledge and grasp how a variety of teams interactions’ may impact it
- Been exposed to performance management, understanding the importance of building an effective team that can function independently, while collaborating and supporting each other
- Partnered across departments, ensuring coordination with internal teams (e.g., with Documentation; Marketing; Product)

- CockroachDB Cloud provides CockroachDB to anyone who needs to scale fast, survive anything, and thrive everywhere
- We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Console team, the team responsible for CockroachDB Cloud’s frontend, billing, authentication and API surfaces
- The Console is our control plane application for CockroachDB Cloud and it allows users to manage clusters across their organization
- Our team has broad ownership and some domain area examples include the signup/login/onboarding flows, creating/organizing/managing clusters, notifications and billing, and managing roles and permissions of a user or service account
- This ownership also includes the external facing surfaces in which a user can interact with the control plane including the Console UI, Terraform, API, and other CLI tools
- The Console team’s mission is to bring the power of CockroachDB to every developer, through a trusted managed-service offering that enables them to easily setup, manage, and operate their clusters for their world-changing applications
- Working closely with our SRE team, Frontend and other Backend Engineers, and Database Engineers you will be part of a collaborative culture striving to make data easy at global scale by integrating distributed databases and the cloud with a world-class developer experience
- Help engineers successfully navigate their day-to-day by providing them the resources they need, as well as access to individuals who can help them accomplish their goals at Cockroach Labs
- Partner closely with our engineering and product leadership to set the engineering roadmap for CockroachDB and our future products
- Collaborate with managers across teams to tackle people management challenges, but to also ensure the coordination of documentation, marketing, and product initiatives as we scale
- Coach and provide direct feedback to your team to guide personal development and growth beyond just technical skills. Managing performance and making sure that our engineers are achieving their goals is essential to retaining a high performing team of engineers

- In your first 30 days, you will become an integrated member of our engineering team
- You’ll spend time learning about the Console team’s domain, processes and people, as well as learning about CockroachDB and CockroachDB Cloud
- We believe that it's essential for you to take this first month to become familiar with our technology and our company
- After 3 months, you will be fully integrated into the team and comfortable leading the Console team’s execution in partnership with Product and Design
- You’ll have built an understanding of the Console team’s tech stack and feel comfortable with the Console’s architecture and components
- You’ll understand the team’s priorities and roadmap
- After 6 months, you’ll be ready for our next bi-yearly planning process, with your comprehensive understanding of our roadmap and priorities
- You will be making sure that each member of your team is working on projects that align with both our needs and their interests, and able to partner with them to shape their career development

Cockroach Labs was founded by a team of ex-Google employees who wanted to build a database management system similar to Google’s Spanner. The result is CockroachDB, an open-source distributed SQL database. It offers local or global scaling with familiar SQL, failproof fault tolerance, and guaranteed transaction consistency, and can be deployed across any cloud.
Maintaining full SQL compliance with global cloud capabilities will help Cockroach Labs take advantage of the wave of companies needing to scale their existing SQL databases onto the cloud. Cockroach Labs grew from a $2 billion valuation to $5 billion in under a year, proving itself as an enticing and approachable prospect in this developing sector.

Its hope is that CockroachDB’s high failure tolerance and geo-distribution will provide attractively swift functionality whilst allowing customers to remain within their legal jurisdictions - and will prove pivotal in 5G use cases. Its success to date, targeted updates to ease network migrations, and its recent expansion into EMEA markets, suggest it has a strong shot.
