Who you are
- 4+ years of relevant tax experience in a corporate environment, public accounting firm or major law firm
- Good understanding of key VAT/GST principles
- Experience with big data in Excel
- Experience of performing tax account reconciliation is essential
- You are always looking for a better way to do things
- A degree in law or accounting (CPA, Chartered Tax Advisor or equivalent), graduate degree in taxation strongly preferred
- You are able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and quickly adapt to change with a desire to learn, and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects and possesses excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Senior Analyst with expertise in international indirect taxes and accounting to join our growing Finance team at StockX
- In this role, you will be responsible for indirect tax compliance and tax accounts reconciliation for jurisdictions across Europe, Asia Pacific and North Americas
- This role reports to the Senior Manager, International Indirect Tax
- The Tax Team collaborates with stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure the financial health of the StockX through accurate and timely tax filings, advising on business decisions, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and international laws and regulations
- In this critical role, you will join a group of strategic, detailed-oriented thinkers that thrive in StockX’s fast-paced, high-growth environment while working cross-functionally with our accounting, finance, legal, operations, marketing and product and engineering teams
- Be responsible for the preparation and submission of indirect tax filings for the European, Asia Pacific and North American regions leveraging the assistance of internal and external resources
- Be responsible for the tax accounts reconciliation to make sure accurate representation of the tax liability/asset in the Financial Statements
- Research and analyze international indirect tax issues for the new business initiatives outlining VAT/GST impacts, tax requirements, and recommendations, including cross team coordination
- Assist with implementation of indirect tax strategies and projects
- Build relationships with team members across StockX to ensure the Tax team is effectively partnering with various internal teams
- Assist with external and internal audits and ad-hoc queries from the leadership and other stakeholders
Our take
StockX pairs buyers with sellers and verifies products through its live bid-and-ask structure, funding itself by charging a transaction fee on each sale. In return it verifies each item sold on the platform for authenticity and condition, setting it aside from competitors in this space such as TheRealReal.
The company is now hoping to further distinguish itself by working directly with brands to release products through the platform, with a vision to letting its customers set the price for goods in the same way investors do for shares in the stock exchange.
Despite issues including allegations of counterfeiting from Nike and a general slowdown in the resale goods market over 2022, StockX has continued its rapid growth, doubling the number of buyers on its network to 12 million. While a global economic slowdown has caused it to give up on plans for an IPO in the near term, StockX is nonetheless planning to expand its product line and expand internationally in the near future.
