Who you are

  • This is a high-energy and high-volume job that requires persistent and persuasive interactions with clients, deep digital, social and programmatic expertise, proven sales skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal teams to close deals
  • 6+ years of digital media experience in a sales role
  • Experience at a leading publisher, technology, or social media platform is preferred
  • Strong track record of driving revenue through prospecting, generating new business, and growing and retaining existing business
  • Desire to coach and mentor other sales individuals
  • An entrepreneurial spirit
  • Extremely self-motivated
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong in-person and virtual presentation skills
  • Ability to provide consistent market feedback
  • Keen ability to listen & offer a consultative selling approach
  • Great question-asking skills
  • Strong negotiation skills and an ability to persuade at all levels of an agency or client
  • Willingness to travel as necessary

What the job involves

  • As a Senior Director, Client Partnerships on the Growth team at Vox Media, are hungry to break new business and retain the customers working with Vox Media
  • Your primary responsibility is to drive revenue with partners by providing solutions that build our clients' businesses and brands
  • You will use your expertise, knowledge and relationships to unlock the full potential of our brands through a unique blend of premier content offerings, high-value audiences, cutting-edge technology, and a deep product portfolio
  • Develop new relationships at all levels with agency and client partners
  • Prospect, including the ability to qualify and close new accounts
  • Build a strong knowledge of Vox Media’s advertising products and solutions
  • Adhere to a focused sales strategy and thrive on RFP volume
  • Be proactive with partners consistently bringing them solutions-oriented products to meet their business challenges
  • Manage the proposal and media plan process, ensuring highly relevant and creative solutions for partners
  • Lead a team of digital media sales professionals to achieve and exceed KPIs and a team revenue goal
  • Work closely with your senior management to manage internal revenue expectations, a sales pipeline in a CRM, and accurate forecasting
  • Consistently communicate market feedback

Our take

Whilst magazines and newspapers are not as popular as they once were, digital journalism is alive and well. However, many people feel that digital content is becoming less natural and informative, and instead has become focused on sensationalism and ‘click-bait’ as a means of advertising.

Vox Media publishes media across various digital platforms, focussing on providing insightful and informative journalism through storytelling, commentary, and cultural conversation. Whilst the company's editorial networks are meant for entertainment purposes, they do this through a means that increases awareness and interest of affiliate brands. Generally, their digital content aims to lead readers to subscribe to a podcast, click a link, or purchase a product.

Marketing through digital publishing is nothing new, but Vox Media has approached this with an interesting perspective by focussing on producing content that inspires a reader to follow up on a brand, as opposed to being suggested to do so. This helps the content remain natural and legitimate, as opposed to feeling spammy and pushy. With numerous acquisitions at its back, and a recent and substantial investment in the company, Vox Media will continue scaling its existing brands and operations, as well as securing the resources to continue its ascent into the future.
