Role
Who you are
- We are seeking an experienced data science and machine learning expert to join our dynamic team
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
- 6+ years of experience in building and deploying machine learning models in a production environment, preferably in the fintech industry
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala, as well as experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
- Deep understanding of statistical learning theory and predictive modeling techniques
- Extensive experience in working with natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs)
- Proven track record of driving impactful business outcomes through development and deployment of consumer behavior models
- Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed computing frameworks
- Excellent problem-solving skills and effectiveness in communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities and business needs
What the job involves
- As a Staff Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in developing state-of-the-art machine learning models to deliver remarkable consumer experiences
- You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to work on high-impact initiatives that drive the continuous improvement of our products and services through innovation
- Design, develop, and implement cutting-edge statistical and machine learning models to effectively enhance consumer experiences
- Apply a combination of classical ML and nascent LLM approaches to understand customer needs and predict customer outcomes
- Take technical ownership of the end-to-end ML project life cycle, from data collection and preprocessing to model development, deployment, post-launch monitoring and maintenance, as well as sunsetting
- Leverage large-scale datasets to conduct exploratory data analysis and visualization, extracting actionable insights that guide strategic decision-making
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, business and compliance stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Build robust data pipelines and infrastructure to support model development, training, and deployment in a production environment
- Evaluate model performance, conduct A/B testing, and iterate on model improvements to enhance accuracy and effectiveness
- Stay current with industry trends, research advancements, and best practices in machine learning and fintech
Our take
Many people struggle to pay their rent every month, with a variety of bills hitting their bank accounts simultaneously. Whilst many of these people earn enough money to cover their bills, the inflexible nature of monthly bills can make the all-in-one payment a harder obstacle.
Flex provides a mobile application for the flexible payment of rent, allowing users to pay their landlords through flexible payment plans, reschedule payments when necessary, and protect their funds through Overdraft Protection. The company achieves this by partnering with estate agents and paying their resident's bills upfront, taking on the challenges that landlords would normally have due to late payments.
Flex has experienced extremely rapid growth since its founding which has caused some issues, as it struggled to keep up with the surge in new customers. Having made improvements to its product and scaled its customer service team, it is set to continue providing a service that has come to be highly valued by both tenants and landlords.
