  • BS, M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science, Language Technologies, or related quantitative field

What the job involves

  • DoorDash is looking for an Engineering Manager with an ML background to lead the Voice Ordering AI team
  • This team is responsible for helping our merchants optimize their 1st party channel by increasing phone order conversion and in-store efficiency – we are building on the latest technologies in generative AI to innovate in this space
  • Our Voice AI team is a part of our Merchant engineering org, responsible for empowering local businesses to connect with consumers – enabling frictionless onboarding, reliable ordering, and increased business insights to help grow sales
  • DoorDash is looking for an engineering manager with strong machine learning algorithm knowledge to oversee the Voice AI team
  • Your team will span backend and ML engineers and will work across multiple platforms to build the end-to-end AI ordering system
  • You will partner with Product and Operations leads to create a vision and roadmap to help merchants propel their businesses to new heights
  • Build an end-to-end large-scale generative AI application
  • Lead and grow a team of exceptional machine learning and backend engineers, delivering end-to-end large scale systems, leveraging cutting-edge NLP and LLM technologies
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, & Operations teams to define and execute on the roadmap and vision for the team
  • Encourage innovation, teamwork, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, and outside-of-the-box thinking

DoorDash was an early entrant into the last-mile restaurant delivery business, which is now crowded with the likes of Uber Eats, Postmates and GrubHub. They offer restaurants an end-to-end delivery platform, generating new business and access to a network of delivery drivers.

To differentiate itself in the market, DoorDash focused on areas with fewer competitors and found success in this untapped market. Other factors, such as the company's targeting of restaurants which many not typically offer a delivery service, also contribute to its profitability. The company made its stock market debut in 2020 with one of the biggest IPOs of the year.

However, in light of increasing discontent around DoorDash's commission structure from restaurants, competition remains fierce.
