  • As we scale we continue to push our teams to run autonomously. They are closest to our customers, so they’re empowered to prioritise and deliver, without being told what to do by leadership. This means they can move fast and run multiple projects at the same time
  • As we grow, you’ll be working with product and platform teams to tighten the loop between the two, you’ll work to identify potential reliability issues before they impact our customers, and measure our reliability to help teams make data-driven decisions
  • Sustain this growth by continuously iterating on the services we run, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use
  • Evaluate complex requirements and deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence
  • Building and maintaining the infrastructure, tooling, and foundation of the technical parts of Wise
  • Ensuring we have our services up and running so product teams can work efficiently
  • Understanding our customers and the impact our product makes in their lives
  • Helping Wise achieve its mission by building on one of the key foundation technology layers at the heart of our platform

Otta's take

Theo Margolius headshot

Theo Margolius

COO of Otta

Wise started when the two founders realised they would be better off trading Estonian kroons for British pounds (and vice versa) between themselves rather than going through banks. That was back in 2011, and they've since grown Wise into one of Europe's most successful tech businesses, exchanging billions of currency every month.

Wise rapidly grew by solving a significant problem for customers, who lost too much money to banks when exchanging currency. They've attracted investment from some of the best investors in the world, from Andreesen Horowitz to Index Ventures and even Richard Branson.

The challenge for Wise will be maintaining their edge and brand power in a market that's becoming increasingly crowded with new entrants (like Revolut and Monzo) and incumbents (traditional banks) trying to catch up. To do so, the company is ramping up its digital and marketing strategies, as well as pushing for further development of its existing products.
