  • Possess a solid grasp of B2B-SMB product-led growth strategies, enabling effective collaboration with Marketing, Sales, and Support teams
  • Exercise discernment in decision-making, knowing when to decline requests to maintain focus and when to take advantage of opportunities for quick wins that enhance team spirit
  • Embrace a systems thinking approach to problem-solving, valuing both incremental progress and the quality of what we deliver to customers
  • Exhibit a deep curiosity and commitment to enhancing the success and livelihoods of real estate entrepreneurs, translating their needs into actionable business objectives
  • Flexibly move between strategic discussions on OKRs and annual planning to hands-on product requirements, maintaining effectiveness across various levels of detail
  • While familiarity with Agile methodologies, continuous delivery, and tools like Jira are valued, we prioritize candidates who focus on driving our business forward by ensuring our customers are supported in reaching their goals through our products and services

What the job involves

Your goal is to identify and address customer challenges, creating lending experiences that align with Backflip’s mission to make real estate investment accessible to everyone, while fostering significant business growth
  • Your responsibilities encompass defining and guiding the product's roadmap, while also iteratively delivering on that roadmap to achieve our business aims
  • Working hand-in-hand with teams across design, engineering, data, and marketing, you will lead efforts to ensure we meet our collective objectives, driving our platform's growth
  • This role is not just about managing products; it's about leading with insight, inspiring change, and creating opportunities for our customers to succeed in the dynamic world of real estate investing
  • This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor (~45 person company) working directly with executives in a fast-paced and well-capitalized startup (Series A)
  • Immerse yourself in understanding customer pain points and opportunities to help their business thrive, recognizing the critical need to resolve these issues and take advantage of the opportunities
  • Create a product roadmap that addresses the customer pain points and use both quantitative and qualitative data to guide the strategy
  • Break big goals into small, solvable pieces, and reliably prioritize to iteratively deliver high-value, while balancing immediate needs with long-term objectives
  • Use data to test hypotheses, challenging preconceptions to enhance product quality
  • Critically assess ideas and proposals, enhancing them with your insights
  • Coordinate with Design and Engineering leaders to ensure clarity and alignment on priorities and expectations throughout the development process
  • Strengthen ties across cross functional teams to guarantee a unified, customer-first approach in all endeavors
  • Keep a pulse on market trends and competitor movements, understanding their implications for our customers and adapting our strategies to continually serve them better
  • Understand this role is intended to evolve as the company grows, and this person should be willing to work on various tasks that fall outside of the above listed responsibilities

Our take

Flipping houses, despite its allure, poses significant challenges, especially when it comes to securing financing and navigating the complexities of real estate investments.

Enter Backflip, a startup founded in 2020 which addresses these challenges. It offers a streamlined approach to borrowing money for short-term real estate investments. The company not only facilitates financing but also leverages technology to assist investors in sourcing, tracking, and evaluating potential investments.

Despite entering the market during a period of surging interest rates, Backflip has achieved remarkable growth, boasting impressive annualized revenue and nearing profitability. With a successful Series A funding round, the company is poised to further revolutionize the fix and flip industry, offering a solution that could help reshape the real estate investment landscape.

Company values

  • Raise the standards of what is possible: Our members are raising their standards: they deserve a company that does, too. Steve Jobs had just two classifications: things were either ‘insanely great’, or ‘total shit’. Work that matters has no middle ground. Backflippers relate to this way of thinking. Don’t we all want to be ‘insanely great’?
  • We embrace being the novice so we can become the master: We all start new endeavors as beginners. We may make mistakes, which is ok, as mistakes help us to grow in our journey to becoming the master. We learn from the giants, as we seek to identify battle-tested ideas and practices that have demonstrated their resiliency over time. At Backflip, we enter challenges and opportunities with curious minds, and ask questions, freely and without judgment
  • Work only with those who want the best for us: As the cliché goes: we refuse to work with assholes. We want business to be fun! Success depends on our blend of deep caring, effort, and optimism. We’re energized to work together with “our people” toward our best work
  • Communicate quickly, naturally and with radical candor: We value direct communication. The optimal approach is sharing, with quick, concise, everyday language - for good news, bad news, responsibilities, plans, and decisions. Feedback is core to our culture, always given in service of helping each other grow and get better
  • Today, nah, Now!: Speed matters. In the finite realm of time, we relentlessly compress cycles, amplifying time through proactive, purposeful actions. Our commitment to urgency propels exponential progress. No room for apathy or complacency; being willing is not enough: we must do. Today, never tomorrow — Today, nay, now!
  • We test new things to invest and challenge the status quo: We use trial-and-error as a way to invent. In the freedom to choose from maximum options we discover novel approaches and capture large upsides. Many of history’s greatest inventions were misperceived at first. We have the resiliency to stand by the testing framework even against those stuck in the status quo
