Company mission

To build a data platform that enables everyone to have access to trusted data so they can take action and automate their business.

Role

Who you are

  • Senior Sales Engineer experience - 4+ years experience in a sales engineering role working with technical products, particularly with enterprise customers
  • Alternatively, 6+ years working as an enterprise data leader with a strong desire to engage with prospects
  • Customer empathy - Ability to understand customer needs, clearly communicate tradeoffs (written and verbal), influence technical audiences, and translate that into technical solutions
  • Experience demonstrating and articulating product value to operations teams (marketing, customer success, sales, product, or finance)
  • Technical background - Experience with data warehousing, analytics engineering and sales/marketing/revenue operations data
  • Proficiency in SQL and knowledge of database best practices and troubleshooting
  • Nice-to-haves: integration, orchestration, working with APIs, and/or Customer Data Platforms
  • Self-motivation – Desire to act as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) in a startup environment without the structure of big companies. Proven ability to problem-solve your way through issues with the team
  • Curiosity – Interest in learning and exploring, experimenting, and teaching others
  • Hybrid - Report to our London office at least three days per week

What the job involves

  • You'll be a bridge between the front lines, working directly with prospects and clients alongside the sales team, and the product and engineering team, collaborating with them to relay feedback that impacts our product roadmap
  • You’ll provide technical guidance, solutions design, and thought leadership that enables companies to maximize their data warehouse investment, moving the highest quality data to all the right places
  • You’ll pair with prospective customers to drive the Census evaluation process, scoping out meaningful proof points, and then ensuring they have the best chance of evaluating Census successfully
  • You will also be an educator and architect alongside our Sales team. From demos to workshops, playbooks, and sales enablement, you will teach organizations about Census’s value
  • Partner with Account Executives to give prospective customers’ data and operational teams access to deep technical knowledge of the Census product and broader data ecosystem
  • Consult prospects to understand the technical “art of the possible” of the Census product, as well as use cases and best practices
  • Take ownership of customer’s technical evaluation. Ensure that all technical issues, questions, and concerns of product fit are clearly resolved
  • Collaborate as the technical liaison between Census sales and engineering teams
  • Engage with product and engineering teams on roadmap, sharing customer/prospect feedback
  • Ensure customers successfully implement and use Census
  • Codify and share how-to’s in our documentation and internal knowledge base
  • Mentor other Sales Engineers, help onboard new team members, and build the team’s capabilities over time

Our take

Companies spend inordinate amounts of time and money building data warehouses and moving data from enterprise applications. Census smooths over that syncing process and makes the resultant information available to employees from across the company.

Unlike most business intelligence tools, Census operationalizes data directly from the data warehouse of a company, and syncs that information with a company’s favourite apps like Salesforce, Marketo and Zendesk. This allows non-data teams such as marketing and sales to access the accurate, up-to-date information they need without requiring coding skills or intensive support from data or developer teams.

The company believes that it can go further to refine its product and fulfil its ambition of building a platform that will allow non-technical users to build data-led queries. It is making positive strides in this direction, for instance in becoming the first company to integrate third-party enrichment data (provided by Clearbit, for instance) into its customers' data warehouses.
