Company mission

Amazon aims to be Earth’s most customer centric company. Their mission is to continually raise the bar of the customer experience by using the internet and technology to help consumers find, discover and buy anything, and empower businesses and content creators to maximise their success.

Role

Who you are

  • You have an “anything is possible” mindset when faced with highly ambiguous and complex problems
  • You are proud of your work, skills, judgment, and expertise – but you are simultaneously eager to listen to feedback from others
  • You have a background in complex data products or developing deep understanding in technical or scientific domains, geek out over customer experience, and believe that no experience is perfect unless it delights customers in unexpected ways
  • You have demonstrated design acumen and believe in the power of strategic design to differentiate experience and increase customer trust
  • You are an influencer who doesn’t hold your ideas as precious and who iterates quickly, based on data, and delivers recommendations and analysis that tell the story of the customer experience your team is delivering
  • 5+ years of UX designer or interaction designer experience
  • Have an available online portfolio
  • Experience designing in an agile development environment
  • Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute programs that are strategic in nature

Desirable

  • Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes
  • Knowledge of best practices for information architecture and design

What the job involves

  • As a Senior UX Designer on our team, you will solve complex design problems, helping empower internal service teams, security engineers, and managers to continuously raise the bar on security posture
  • Throughout the strategy, design, and development lifecycle, you will work collaboratively with customers, engineers, product managers and senior stakeholders
  • This position requires deep customer focus and the ability to build relationships and feedback loops to continuously improve products based on evolving customer needs and security goals
  • You will have ownership over your design solutions from conception through implementation, working closely with engineering teams to ensure the high standards of your designs are maintained
  • Foster a customer-obsessed design culture by sharing best practices, evangelizing design principles, and influencing product strategy
  • Define, develop and socialize a clear vision for design innovation and big thinking while not sacrificing speed of delivery
  • Provide leadership and design direction, influencing across teams and giving thoughtful, detailed and actionable design feedback
  • Promote collaboration and facilitate communication with stakeholders at all levels and across diverse disciplines and geographies
  • Work cross-functionally to drive elegant design solutions from early concept through final implementation and iteration
  • Craft, pitch, and validate long term design strategies
  • Use data and customer insights to confidently share design solutions with senior leaders
  • Use systems-level design thinking to drive design solutions from your team that scale
  • Present design work to executive leadership and other senior stakeholders
  • You will own and contribute to studies that evaluate the customer experience of executing use cases on security issue management services, as well as technology/industry trends and the voice of the customer
  • You will join an expanding team, leverage your technical and domain skills, and apply a variety of methodologies to drive these studies
  • You will collaborate with product teams and senior leaders to provide insights and drive improvements that help us achieve our vision to be Earth's Most Customer-Centric Company

Our take

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer, and is well-known for its disruption of well-established industries. The company is present in numerous verticals, including cloud computing with Amazon Web Services, AI with its range of Alexa devices and a global marketplace more commonly referred to as 'the everything store'. Acquisitions include Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Market, and IMDb.

More recently, Amazon has been focused on leading the "third wave in digital advertising". Many businesses are now shifting ad dollars to retailers, which before would have been spent with online media platforms. Amazon's seen great success in the space, with its revenue from advertising now higher than its Amazon Prime membership scheme, audiobooks and digital music combined. This growth is particularly impressive considering its digital ad rivals (like Snap, Alphabet, and Meta) have suffered declines due to wider macroeconomic factors and Apple's iOS privacy changes.

Despite its dominant market position, Amazon will continue to be challenged over the next decade, including sustaining AWS's cloud dominance in the face of Google and Microsoft. On top of this, the company's e-commerce division is facing profitability problems despite its 2023 post-IPO debt funding of 8 billion. It will need to find new ways to stay above their competitors.
