- We are looking for an engineer with experience leading projects from the ground up, breaking work into logical components, and delivering results as projected. Experience serving as a mentor to other engineers is a big plus
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with software programming with React
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with software programming with Python
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS)
- Hands-on experience with SQL tables and SQL queries
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and continuous integration testing
Desirable
- High proficiency with Frontend web development – this role will be joining a team which has deeper experience in backend and cloud engineering. Preferred stack is React, Kubernetes, and Golang, but we also use a lot of Python and Django
What the job involves
- This role is a member of the well-established Development Tools team which maintains high-value services covering internal app distribution, localization, and game asset management
- Write software and deploy it to cloud infrastructure following standard processes for code quality, code documentation, testing, security, and automated deployments
- Propose and implement new fullstack software architecture designs
- Coordinate with internal partners and customers on developing new features
Our take
Zynga is a games developer that rode Facebook's platform to success back in the late noughties and early 2010's. It is now one of the biggest casual game producers globally, with a presence across 175 countries and regions and over 80 million monthly active users.
Though the company hit a number of roadblocks after its initial success - such as falling stock prices, and numerous calls it was copying other games - its subsequent resurgence is proof of its staying power. It continues to use social media as a distribution channel, and boasts titles such as FarmVille, Merge Dragons! and Words With Friends.
Future success will lie in the company's continued investment in building viral games that people love. It will also need to attune to the social media waves and keep track of where users can be found, as the landscape has become more mobile. Notable recent activity includes a collaboration with BBC Earth ahead of 2024's Earth day, and grant to develop actionable push notifications that enable gameplay without entering the application.
