Role

  • Practical experience working through the entire design process, from Discovery and product definition, to detailed production and launch
  • Exceptional core UX design skills. Strong familiarity with web design patterns, standards and widely recognised approaches in the design industry. Experience working with design systems is a plus
  • Confidence working with developers and product managers, advocating for and offering expertise on UX design in a product team
  • Experience in Service Design, including mapping techniques
  • Experience running User Research Interviews and Usability Tests
  • Experience leading workshop exercises and group co-creation sessions
  • Superb communication, with the ability to present design work - and explain a user-centric design approach - with confidence and clarity
  • A portfolio or presentation showcasing your work and design process

What the job involves

  • The PlayStation Partners Platform is a suite of digital tools used by game creators to publish their games to the PlayStation store and discs. We're a team of professional designers, writers and researchers all working to make our platform the most welcoming, intuitive and well-supported place for game publishing
  • Join the Partners UX Design team and play a key role in crafting the future of game development and publishing, reaching thousands of users worldwide
  • In this role, you’ll sit in a cross-functional product development team alongside one of your UX teammates, with a focus on the support services we offer game creators
  • This is a permanent role in a remote and hybrid friendly team, typically at home 3-4 days each week, and in our central London office (near Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street stations), 1-2 days
  • Spend time crafting exceptional design solutions, from early conceptual stages through to product releases and updates. Your designs will be well-considered, and demonstrate:
  • Deep understanding of user needs and priorities - including accessibility needs
  • User flows that fit naturally with how people work, including good IA and navigation
  • Clear communication of function and intended use through navigation, layout and language
  • Highly intuitive and usable user interfaces, with excellent component selection and design
  • Work closely with users and developers in an open and collaborative fashion, iterating designs to bring the best into production, balancing technical feasibility and product quality
  • Team up with product managers to ensure scope and concepts meet user needs, plan design activities and roadmaps, and ensure design-mature project strategy
  • Seek and act on design feedback from users and colleagues, advocating for a user-centric, evidence-led approach. When sharing designs you'll explain rationale clearly, inviting input from others and ensuring work remains focused on user and business needs
  • As the newest member of our design team in London, you'll also collaborate on ambitious, UX team-led initiatives to advance how design happens at PlayStation. For example, helping develop our design system, user archetypes and service blueprints

Our take

Since the release of the PS1 in 1994, PlayStation has been a consistent leader in the video gaming market. Its consoles are iconic in the gaming community - Playstation has produced both the top-selling and fastest-selling console of all time - and the company is still pushing boundaries. Its current flagship - the PS5 - promises to revolutionize gaming, featuring new technology that will create improvements across the board.

As well as its consoles, PlayStation has also developed online services, connecting its users and giving them access to diversified media. A PlayStation can be used for a huge range of activities - from Netflix to guided workouts - which has led to the expansion of the company's audience over time and across generations.

PlayStation faces competition in its field from the likes of Microsoft, with its Xbox range, and PC gaming, which has been becoming more popular in recent years. Regardless, PlayStation shows no signs of slowing down. The upcoming implementation of in-game ads in free games looks to significantly increase revenue, and the wider PlayStation gaming experience also appears to be evolving from plans to launch live service games in upcoming years.
