Who you are
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 4+ years of experience working on large-scale distributed systems
- 4+ years of experience driving collaboration across organizational boundaries
- 4+ years of experience with C++ (3+ years active coding experiences )

What the job involves
- The Waymo Logs Storage team owns the infrastructure for storing driven and simulated data of Waymo cars
- Storage management aspects, including file formats, encodings, replication, rebalancing, integrity, durability, backends and APIs
- Dataset management aspects, including metadata, versioning, lifetime control, quotas and APIs for set/membership management
- Responsibility for overall storage cost. This includes tooling required for data curation, plus defining and implementing storage cost control policies spanning multiple Waymo teams
- In this hybrid role you will report to a Software Engineering Manager
- Brainstorm, design and build new storage infrastructure features, in alignment with Waymo priorities
- Build and use relationships with partner teams to provide solutions spanning organizational boundaries
- Understand and improve the behavior of production systems, including instrumentation, bug fixes, provisioning, and reliability improvements
- Improve the automation, code health, technical debt and simplify the system
- Provide support for partners and clients
Our take
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company that began as the Google self-driving car project in 2009. After initial development, it secured permits to deploy autonomous ride-hailing services in cities including Phoenix and San Francisco, but has recently hit a major bump in the road with safety concerns that resulted in a recall of over 400 self-driving cars.
With the autonomous driving industry already besieged by setbacks and public distrust, this development does Waymo no favours. That said, as an industry leader there remains the possibility it will see out the storm, but massive attention will need to be given to rebuilding trust with consumers if this is to be the case.
