Company mission

Plaid's mission is to unlock financial freedom for everyone.

Role

Who you are

  • 5 to 7 years of backend development experience
  • Track record of completing large projects with ambiguous requirements, and working with PMs and Designers
  • Working knowledge of popular server-side technologies (Python / GoLang / MySQL) and client-side technologies (React, etc)Strong system-design skills, including distributed systems and data schema design
  • Nice to have: Experience building payment-related tech stacks

What the job involves

  • Plaid is looking for a full stack (backend heavy) software engineer to join the Payments team
  • Our team is responsible for Plaid’s bank payment products and our mission is to reimagine how millions of consumers and fintechs move money in a convenient and secure way
  • You will help guide the architectural foundation for new products and explosive growth
  • You will own end-to-end new features and products that unlock novel money movement use cases
  • You’ll also work closely with a product manager to understand user needs and create products that delight them, while building robust foundations that can handle scale without compromising reliability
  • Own the technical delivery of new money-movement products and features by working closely with PMs, Designers, Data Science, and other stakeholders
  • Build robust, scalable technical solutions to hard problems that stand the test of time, and scale
  • Mentor junior engineers, and hold a high excellence bar for the team through spec and code reviews, and solid operational excellence practices

Our take

Plaid builds infrastructure that allows a consumer to interact with their bank account on the web through a number of third-party applications, like Venmo, Robinhood, Coinbase, Acorns and LendingClub.

Plaid has integrated with 12,000 financial institutions in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. About a quarter of people living in North America with bank accounts have linked with Plaid through at least one of the hundreds of apps that leverage Plaid’s application program interfaces (APIs). The platform allows companies to create financial services applications without having to hire their own team of engineers to build out a tool that connects apps to its users’ bank accounts.

This is very valuable in a world where there are increasing number of fintechs, so the demand for Plaid's services are only going to grow. Despite its strong position, it has not been immune to the difficult global economic situtation and was forced to restructure at the end of 2022, laying off some of its workforce. However it is still experiencing growth and is well-positioned to weather the current economic uncertainty.
