Who you are

  • 5+ years as a backend software engineer or data engineer with professional experience building highly scalable systems
  • Technology: Comfortable with designing and scaling backend systems that manage Ribbon’s data, including the core data platform

What the job involves

  • Ribbon Health is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Data) to help build and push high impact scalability initiatives across our data collectors, data pipelines and APIs to support our next phase of growth
  • To help us achieve our mission, we are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer (Data) who is comfortable with designing and scaling backend systems that manage Ribbon’s data, including the core data platform, and seeks to enable people to access affordable and high-quality care that is right for them.
  • This is a full time hybrid role located in New York City and will report to our VP of Engineering
  • Scale our data extraction infrastructure and build-out our next generation of data pipelines
  • Automate repetitive tasks that will allow us to focus on what matters most
  • Build out end to end validation frameworks across our pipelines
  • Scale our indexing solution to make sure we are keeping up with current and future commitments
  • Build out and scale our data warehousing solution to continue to drive our data decision making capabilities

Our take

One of the biggest roadblocks to reducing costs in the American healthcare system is the system’s inherent lack of transparency. Most healthcare networks and hospital systems can’t accurately account for the doctors they manage and which insurance plans those doctors accept. This leads to poor decision making and referrals, and approximately a third of healthcare spend is wasted as a result.

Ribbon’s SaaS offering collects data on what doctors and health plans can offer and who they work with in terms of insurance coverage. Essentially, it’s an API-based nationwide healthcare directory created to bring more transparency, increased efficiency and better decision making to in-person healthcare.

Ribbon already counts Oak Street Health, Well, and fast growth telehealth startup, Ro, among its clientele. It has raised tens of millions in funding from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz and Y Combinator, and has used this impressive backing to expand its sales and marketing efforts in order to increase adoption, as well as pushing for transparency in healthcare costs.
