  • Experience leading, coaching and mentoring driven and high performing teams
  • A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
  • Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
  • Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems

  • Domain Experience: Financial accounting, IFRS Reporting

  • We are looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to join the Treasury Squad, leading this area
  • Working with different products and stakeholders
  • Designing and building near real-time processing and transformation pipelines
  • Improve the onboarding process by making it easier and robust to speed up shipping of the products
  • Work with product managers and analysts to setup better controls for the data we have and align stakeholders on these
  • Support and ensure that the team is meeting strict technical SLAs for processing

  • Being responsible for the overall health and productivity of the engineers within your team
  • Providing feedback on architecture and approach and helping team make data-driven decisions
  • Having an overview of what’s happening across the organisation and thinking about engineering as a whole
  • Rolling your sleeves up and coding, being involved in the entire process. Your hands-on involvement may reduce as the team size increases
  • Improving the scalability and reliability of our exchange rates infrastructure
  • Designing and building a system that would own all the rate policies across Wise, which includes providing easy and reliable integration for each individual product
  • Designing and implementing real time data streaming flows to enable real time monitoring of metrics related to financial risks due to product misuse or high market volatility
  • Rolling out and expanding dynamic pricing component which allows treasury to provide fair, flexible and transparent pricing of market volatility
  • What does success look like in this role:
  • You’ll build a good understanding of the domain and an overall understanding of the Wise business
  • You’ll have found your place in our mission by understanding how to drive engineering solutions and look to future challenges
  • You’ll understand our customers and the impact our product makes in their lives
  • You’ll make contributions to the wider engineering goals of the company
  • You’ll inspire a team environment where ideas are shared and openness is valued
  • You’ll help us scale-up and build a world class money transfer product that impacts millions of customers

Otta's take

Theo Margolius headshot

Theo Margolius

COO of Otta

Wise started when the two founders realised they would be better off trading Estonian kroons for British pounds (and vice versa) between themselves rather than going through banks. That was back in 2011, and they've since grown Wise into one of Europe's most successful tech businesses, exchanging billions of currency every month.

Wise rapidly grew by solving a significant problem for customers, who lost too much money to banks when exchanging currency. They've attracted investment from some of the best investors in the world, from Andreesen Horowitz to Index Ventures and even Richard Branson.

The challenge for Wise will be maintaining their edge and brand power in a market that's becoming increasingly crowded with new entrants (like Revolut and Monzo) and incumbents (traditional banks) trying to catch up. To do so, the company is ramping up its digital and marketing strategies, as well as pushing for further development of its existing products.
