Our take

Before Verkada stepped onto the scene, the evolution of video security was happening primarily in the consumer space. Home-security technology like video doorbells was becoming mainstream, but, ironically, enterprise security was lagging behind. Many large-scale companies were using outdated tech, creating problems for their security operations.

Verkada recognised that commercial security was outdated and backward, and began a mission to get commercial security up to date. The company provides clients with computer-vision cameras, using machine learning to identify security issues. Enterprise security is by no means a new market, but Verkada's success has come from its ability to recognise what large companies need and to provide up-to-date solutions. Its products have seen considerable uptake and major funding saw Verkada secure a multi-billion post-money valuation.

Verkada has experienced controversy in the past due to a security breach of some of its surveillance equipment. They have been honest and transparent about this, showing their continued commitment to security and safety. They have shown strong promise despite their setbacks, evident in their ability to close a further Series D funding round and their continued drive towards their goal "to be the essential physical security software layer for every building".

  • Pave The Way - We’re reimagining the enterprise security industry by building technology that extends beyond improving physical safety--we enable teams to optimize their operations and create productive work spaces.
  • Solve Big Challenges - Big problems represent even bigger opportunities. Not only does our software unlock the capabilities of computer vision and machine learning, we’re able to leverage that power to improve safety at scale.
  • Take Strategic Risks - We believe in thinking outside of the box, taking risks and turning obstacles into success. This attitude is baked into the organization, which encourages the team to be innovative, happy and successful.
  • Think For Yourself - We believe we can do things better by questioning assumptions and beliefs. Rather than letting best practices define what we do, we work hard to create new systems and knowledge from scratch.
